Hi

I would just like to know whether EK have changed terminals at Manchester from T3 to T1. What made them move anyway. I thought they were happy in T3, with all its modern facilities. Why change back to old T1 ?

From my man in the know:

"For some time we have felt that the facilities in T3 are somewhat inadequate for an Intercontinental wide-body flight arrival/departure. For instance the refreshment facilities available are not sufficient to cope well with even 'light refreshments' for almost 300 passengers. On any major delay there is no facility to provide a main meal at all. We have to go through the lengthy procedure of bringing passengers back through Security and taking them to T1 to feed them there. There is also only one stand (55) capable of taking aircraft with the wingspan of the A330/B777 (44 on the corner is also possible but not ideal).

All that, coupled with protracted negotiations for the renewal of our handling contract with BA, led us to the decision that now would be a good time to make the move. So from 14th May, it's T1 and Servisair.

The BA codeshare on EK017/018 is not affected and, as with the EI/BA codeshare on MAN/DUB, BA ticketed passengers will checkin in T1."

Hopefully when T3 gets expanded, the deficiencies will have been rectified! (No doubt Prof. Begg's report may have brought forward expenditure plans for T2 and T3 - at least I hope so!).

T3 is far too small for a 300 seater a/c. There is nothing to do in there, particulalrly for two hours before take off. When we arrived back from Dubai two other flights had also just landed. The immigration area was chaos and totally inadequate. Good idea to move them.

The blurb that came out when T3 opened said that BA were planning to use 777s on the MAN-ISB service. Imagine that service and the EK landing within an hour of each other - luckily (?) BA withdrew their service!

I believe the move was probably speeded up due to the contract with Servisair. As far as I know, Servisair work only in T1 and T2 so it makes it easier for it to be in T1.

Also as others have said, there are not many gates at T3 that can take such a large aircraft as it can put other gates out of use.

I thought they may chose T2 as it gets the 747s, but I was wrong! I would have liked that as I work there!!

Mustn't forget that Servisair were/are expected to concentrate on T2 operations (believe their T1 staff went on strike when it was thought they would be seconded to Globestar?/Globeground?).

Yeah, I work T2 Servisair (leaving on Friday!) There's one or two flights a day that seem to be Globeground. Servisair seem to have the monopoly there! The only ones they don't do are Delta, US airways, Malaysia, and Virgin.
