I can't believe it! I had booked 2 tickets LHR-SIN-BKK (rtn) on SQ in Economy for only £475 each plus tax. I recently called up SQ to find out how much it would cost to upgrade to Raffles on the way out and they quoted me £135 per ticket. Is it just me or is that not the most insanely cheap offer? I mean, if I upgrade to J class both ways it will have cost me only £745 per ticket return. Seeing as their cheapest J class fare on that route is usually around £2k or so, I think I have got myself a bargain. Is this a loophole pax can exploit - buying discounted Y class tickets and then upgrading?
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

HKGspotter, please spare us the diatribe.
Ryan, some airlines allow cheap upgrades when the date of departure becomes close and loads are still average.
If you booked the tickets awhile ago and are now departing quite soon, I would surmise this would be the reason!

I think I was quite correct to say that you dislike both Singapore_air the person and Singapore Airlines. You try to discount SQ's improving loads based on one single data point. This reminds me that you once accused SQ of bad maintenance based on one single data point, too. How is you behavior any better than the things that you have accused Singapore_air of? I guess you just don't want to grow up. :-(

I know Hkgspotter1 personally, trust me, he is a nice fellow, and more mature than you would probably think.
For a start he didn't mention the name Singapore_Air.
I am sure you are just as nice person, but you have to admit, he has made a point, people do go to extremes to contacting a company.
For example, I was talking to Singapore_Air and told him I had a problem with the entertainment system on-board, the stewardess had to reset it. He appologied on behalf of SQ and said he would report my experience to SQ as soon as possible...I insisted he didn't but he hoped that I woudl fly Singapore Airlines again in the near future.
Good on you to get such cheap upgrades! SQ has already offered me a free upgrade to Raffles Class from Hong Kong to Singapore, I hope to take advantage of this in the near future!
People. They make an airline. www.cathaypacific.com

That is indeed an insanely cheap Raffles Class ticket. Enjoy your flight. When are you going? Hope that you go after June and return on SQ322
Regarding comments about Singapore Airlines load factors, it should be pointed out that SIA has actually increased capacity while increasing load factor which the majority of other airlines haven't. In addition, in April 2002, the RPK per passenger actually increased 1.2%. Though yields are still pressurised by September 11 2001, the increase in RPK suggests that like Lufthansa, SIA is managing to squeeze a little bit more per customer as a whole.
Obviously Ryanb741s lovely fare doesn't reflect this.
