Any of you in Hong Kong or any of your passing Hong Kong should go upto the departure level and see the models at the North end of the terminal.
These models show the massive convention centre, office buildings, China ferry terminal, Helipad, China bus terminal and the special terminal area for people coming from the ferries going to the airport etc. There is also a monorail that runs around the area and goes into the terminal and the airport Hotel !!.
One good thing for us spotters is a garden area with fountains that will be made at the Eastern most point of the airport (Near the convention centre). Spotting should be good from there !!
On another note, have any of you seen the nice garden areas that have been built at each end of the arrival area ?. Not to mention those very small bathrooms in the arrival area that are now about 400 % larger !!. Its nice to see so much work being done on the inside of the terminal after so much work has been done to plant thousands of trees around the airport area.
ITS CLEAR WHY HKIA IS THE AIRPORT OF THE YEAR 2001 and 2002.

It all sounded very exciting, hopefully, it should save us a long trek to HAECO, I think they should add more computer terminal in the departure lounge and to make the area look much greem, I read John K Morton's book on Changi and the carp pond make it really nice (sorry CLK), I wonder could we put carp gardens or tropical fish tanks in departure lounge, also the food is tediously expensive. By the way, are they adding new gates or new terminals?

A garden from which you can watch planes? That sounds good. We should also write to the HK Airport Authority and ask for a proper observation deck. Afterall, all the major airports in the world have one - LHR, LGW, FRA, LAX, SIN etc.

Yes, I was with Hkgspotter1 when we saw it. It was great model and I am very excited about it! The monorail will be fun The park should be good at the very east of the airport, maybe we can spot the helicopters coming in and out on top of the new ferry terminal! The new fountain, benches and plants improves the arrivals area so much more.
I agree Hkgspotter1, it is quite clear that Hong Kong International Airport is really living up to airport of the year 2001 and 2002 like they have been displayed around the airport.
People. They make an airline. www.cathaypacific.com

Great news; HK is Asia's main international hub and is obviously committed to maintaining that position.
I wonder if the HK Airport authority would be open to a private company developing a dedicated aviation enthusiasts' facility, along the lines of the one in KIX? Still, the garden you speak of sounds very good indeed; should have fine views of approaches to 25L?

These are very exciting developments for CLK. I haven't gone spotting in ages so I haven't seen any of the new stuff on display in the terminal. Things are going great for the airport, attracting new airlines in recent months therefore bringing in more business, winning the Skytrax 'Airport of the Year' award for the second consecutive year and the infrastructural developments are all on track.
