For the summer season, this seems like a very significant downgrade in terms of number of seats. I've been on the LHR-SFO leg of this on a well over-booked 744... I know September 11th has had an effect on travel, but that's a key route, and the number of seats is being dropped by 25 some odd %.
Is there any particular reason besides a general decline in traffic for this?

How is LHR-BOS #1 doing? Delta is giving up their 767-300 BOS-LGW, and I wonder with all the lift between Boston and Heathrow (BA has 2x 747-400, 1x 777; AA has 1x 777 and 1x 767-300; Virgin has 1x 747-400) whether UA is making a satisfactory go of this route. I guess not good enough to bump up to a 777 like AA has.

I don't know, it seemed as though UA wasn't having a whole lot of trouble filling both the 744 and the 777. I would think they could keep the loads that high this summer if they just dropped the 763 (Which I'm sure has been reassigned). And I'm sure there is no shortage of UA 744s right now...
