"United Airlines Operational Excellence Makes for Easy Summer Travel"

"For the period between May 23 and May 27, United completed 99.9 percent of its nearly 8,400 scheduled departures. Ninety percent of United's flights arrived early, on-time or within 14 minutes of their scheduled arrival times. Seventy-seven percent left exactly on time or early."

Seems like running almost a week without a single cancellation says something! Great job fellow UA folks! Watch out AA and F9!

I agree with everything you said except for the Frontier part. What's up with that? There's no comparison between the 2. Frontier is a small low-fare carrier with a fleet of 30 planes based in Denver, while UA is the 2nd largest carrier in the entire world.  Smile

Good news for United.

That'll show the other majors that United still means business.

You would be suprised at how much F9 competes with UA in Denver. They are our number one competitor here and we constantly compete for the markets. I know it seems silly, but its true. We aren't real happy with that either being that they are a no-frills carrier and fly mostly older 737-200s that arent real reliable.

Besides, they are the home-town airline so if UA does so much as spits the wrong way, the news is all over us. However, if Frontier flys a plane over the White House ( a BIG no-no)..."well, the pilot was new to the airport, they wont let it happen again". See what I am saying?

In the end, we beat Frontier when it comes to the valuable business traveler. Lets face it, who wants to sit ona cramped, noisy 737 for 4 hours to Boston?

JC5280, A few inconsistencies in your post.
Frontier operates mostly 733, a few (5?) 732 and 7 A319s. Also, Frontier uses A319 on BOS not 737s. In Feb F9 ammended lease agreements to return 2 732 to its lessor almost 2 years ahead of schedule. Judging by your posts it seems as if you are frightened by Frontier?!?!?!? Competition is good... They cater to different people. You have nothing to worry about. Honestly I'm sure both can coexist. There is enough market share...

They still managed to screw my family's trip to Europe last week.
Cancelled their seat assignment (arranged two months in advance and confirmed the day before departure) on both United Express flight and United/Austrian codeshare to Vienna. At the end they came with the idea that a 6 and a 3-year old child can be seated alone away from their mother in the middle of the row. Last row in front of the lavatories to be precise. Long way to go United.

konrad,
the only two things gauranteed in life is death and paying taxes, not seat assignments.they probably has a plane change and those seats werent available at time of checkin. when there is a plane change it doesnt happen two days in advance,it usualy happens with in an hour of departure.lucky they got you a new plane or you would have a lot more to complain about.

as far as the united/austian codeshare? whine to austrian since united doesnt fly that route.so yes united is getting better, numbers prove that.
i would be willing to bet the kids still sat next to mom.in all the years of working for united i have rarely seen a family that has to sit apart from their 2 year old or 4 year old.

oh and konrad......thanks for flying UNITED

> oh and konrad......thanks for flying UNITED

As a matter of fact I do enjoy flying United.
First because of channel 11 (or 9 or whatever they call it), second because of the Economy Plus. I am a Lufthansa FF so I get to fly them from time to time while in the US.

Back to my original complain: there was no equipment change whatsoever, the kids sat next to their mother (and next to the lavatories as well) on the transatlantic leg courtesy of Austrian Airlines FAs, not United. My own guess on what happened is that they had very good seats on United Express, 3ABC, I think. I imagine there might have been this guy at the check-in with half a million of United miles that wanted to seat in row 3 (a bulkhead row on FRJ ? I am not sure). Because of his FF status he got what he wanted but the whole itinerary/seat assignment for my people got cancelled in the process.

One more thought: I now stuff happens when you are travelling. What makes the difference is how an airline handles the situation. In this case I am afraid to say I encountered a number of completely indifferent and unhelpful United employees. Maybe I get better service next time.

Take care, Konrad

konrad,
what you just said is so retarded, you actualy think a UNITED CSR took your wifes seats to give to a premier? do you get escorted anytime you fly? to think your precious family lost there seats to a premier is the funniest thing i have heard lately, next to matt d's boycott of airlines.

we dont just change seats because were bored, either one of two things happened

1) change of aircraft

2) you didnt show up before the 30 minute cutoff and you lost your seats.
not even you lh status will get your seats back if your LATE.

what makes the diffrence is how the airline haddles the situation.in this case i am afraid to say i encountered a number of completely indiffrent and unhelpful employees.

like you didnt cop an attitude when told of the seat problem.
we are only human like anybody else, when you insult or yell at an agent, some react the same way you do.think about that next time we play "shuffle the seats"

by the way it is channel 9

JC5280,

I can't believe you can say such harsh things about Frontier. They were rated one of the #1 low-fare carriers in the US. And they aren't a "no-frills" carrier. They actually serve hot food on there long flights to the East Coast. On shorter flights, you WILL get a snack and a drink at MINIMUM.

Not only that, but the seat pitch on the A319s is the #1 in the low-fare market excluding Midwest Express.

Frontier's fleet consists of the following:

7 A319-100s
17 737-300s
7 737-200s

By March of next year, there will only be 3 737-200s remaining in the fleet.

Only there 737-200s are bad. Yes I admit it, they are bad and cramped. But the 737-200s fly on shorter routes to places like ABQ and OMA. No long stretches.

There 737-300s are actually quite nice. The A319s from what I've heard are simply amazing. Frontier is a 1 class airline, yet the A319s only have 132 seats which is below the usual for a one-class layout of an A319.

Frontier is in the process of replacing all it's 737s with A319s and will start recieving A318s next April.

I personally am going to miss the 737s.......especially the 737-200s.....

Not only that, but Frontier is now the 18th largest carrier in the US. It's really amazing how they jumped from 2 737-200s in 1994 to becoming the 18th largest carrier in just 8 years. Simply an amazing accomplishment......

Not only that, but they were 1 of only 3 airlines to report a profit immediately after September 11 while other carriers lost billions.

Don't diss Frontier.  Smile

Regards

It sounds like Konrad's problem was on AUSTRIAN, not United.. so why is United being blamed??? it wasn't UA's fault.. it was all on OS metal....

Jmacias34 and BA...

I didnt mean to sound so harsh about Frontier. I have actually never been on them so I only know about the service from studying them and people's reports of them. I guess its just friendly competition.  Smile

Competition is essential in this industry. United and Frontier coexist pretty well in Denver. I am glad to see Frontier hold their own in Denver. I just hope F9 doesnt get hurt by JetBlue or Alaskan who are newer carriers to Denver.
