Just had a question in mind after viewing a lot of the pictures of the approach at SXM and the concern about the jet blast to the people below on the Beach. Is it even a concern? In what way if any would it effect the people on the beach other than hearing a loud annoying thunder. Any suggestions?

They have signs posted around the beach warning swimmers of the danger. The blast is awsome....I stood at the fence during an AF 743 departure one night...talk about getting sandblasted!!! I had to hold on to a guard rail on the side of the road...blew my shirt over my head...what an experience!

I've heard that people take their dogs to the fence and hold them up in the air and when the jets spool up for T/O, once the jet blast is at its peak, they release the dogs and they go flying into the ocean.

No, people don't get blown into the water. No, dogs don't either. Even the 747 isn't strong enough to do that. I was right there w/ Dazed767. It was strong, it was hot, but at no time did I think it could pick up anything larger than a small rock.
Sorry to disappoint, but all the wild stories you hear are just that...Wild stories.
