The pax were waiting the departure of a Swiss MD-11 in Johanesburg bound for Zurich. The flight was delayed yesterday evening because 5 checked pax did not appear. As the captain realized that the 5 had arabic names and travelled without lugage he canceled the flight. The suspects are still missing.

Any news on that?

This sounds a bit dodgy-where's the info from?

And god knows why a terrorist outfit would choose Swissair, of all airlines!

Cheers

..... well no comment. Just because of Arabic sounding names....

So all Arabs/Moslems are suspects now, this goes in line with the recent announcements about the future entry regulations for Arabs and Moslems to the US.

Security is fine but paranoia is another thing!

It wasn't only because of the arabic sounding names. There were too much details, as for example that they travelled without lugage (JNB-ZRH!!)

And why should they choose SWISS? Hmmm, there are many people not really thinking positive about Switzerland and Swissair, to say the least  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Arabic names were only one points, which would not have mattered. But they checked in and did not show up and there was no lugage.
Bye the way they did not made the travel arrangement together. 2 pieces of lugage were found with strange content. The police did not give any details on that.

The captain was completely right. This sounds really weird, without luggage and Arabic names. BTW Swissair lost a Convair 990 Coronado because of a bomb from Arabic terrorists back in the 1970ies. All passengers and crew died. It came down near Würenlos in Switzerland.

Yeah, ZRH is right, and the PLO also hijacked a CV990 (or was it a Dc8) to Jordan, together with a TWA 707 and BOAC Vc10 and the blow it up!
Not very nice at all...

No matter if the names where Arabic or not. But if someone wants to travel JNB-ZRH without bags (maybe hand-luggage) its one thing, if the check in and they are no-show at the gate the thing is getting stranger and at this point I also would check the thing (even it the plane gets 24h delay).

Just another thing, I'm not sure anymore if it was PLO or not, I think it was before the PLO, "Group of Black September" or similar.

Ok.

These guys didn't show for the flight.

They didn't check luggage, because they didn't have any.

I fail to see the problem here.

If they checked bags then no-showed, I would see a problem but that didn't happen here.

L-188: Those passengers have actually checked in and to me this story seems a little bit fishy since they were a unusual sort of travel group.

Ok, that is a different matter then.

First impression I had from the topic was that they had not checked in or checked baggage.

It was kind of reminding me of that terminal evacuation they had in Houston(I think). Somebody found a knife in a trash can in the john. So they shut down the whole terminal, because somebody tried to get rid of something he knew is shouldn't have the best way they knew how.

That was a bit of overkill, IMHO also.
