Deutsche Lufthansa AG - A Member Of Star Alliance - The Airline Network For Earth - announced that it would cooperate with China based Shanghai Airlines in the future. (What is Shanghai Airlines going to merge with? Air China or China Southern?)

A MoU was signed which signalled cooperation in FFPs, system development (in other words, codesharing), harmonisation or products and services (whatever that means) and sales and marketing joint initiatives.

"We are pleased that our partnership with Lufthansa has created a new chapter. The results of our cooperation will no doubt translate to enhanced competitive travel services for both of our customers.” - Mr. Zhou Chi, Shanghai Airlines’ Chairman & CEO.

“This is a very important development in Lufthansa’s partner strategy and we are delighted to take this step with a company as reputable as Shanghai Airlines in a major growth market for commercial airline traffic.” - Mr. Mayrhuber, Lufthansa Deputy Chairman & CEO (Passenger).

Lufthansa also cooperates with Air China.

So far, Shanghai Airlines seems it is much closer with Air China than China Southern Airlines.

By the way, I do personally not think that Shanghai Airlines will merge with any carriers at current stage.

Shanghai Airlines seems quite happy to go it alone, although it does codeshare with Air China on some routes. It's a great little airline, and I've got a trip report coming up soon.

TNboy, look forward to reading your trip report.

By the way, how was your vacation in China?
