Im due to travel with Lufthansa from LHR to Shanghai via Frankfurt in July. IM aware that IM travelling on a 744 on the leg to Frankfurt but I was just wondering what kind of service they offer in economy. Do they have PTV, what is the pitch like, cabin crew service and also is there a free bar in economy like on other airlines such as BA.

I flew with Lufthansa from FRA to Delhi and back, a couple years ago, and I must say their service was as good as BA, they had no PTV's - at least on the 744s I flew, and yes, they had a free bar service.
I think LH's inflight service as good as any other main european airlines
I have flew many times LH in european routes, and they are even better than in long haul routes, but that seems to be the case of many other european airlines, I wonder why they do that?

Haven't flown LH economy on longhaul flights, but i have had 4 european flights with them earlier this year (feel free to search for my trip report).
If LH has the same standard on longhaul flights as on shorthaul, you can expect this:
Friendly and good looking crew
Pitch average in europe, but i have heard bad things about the longhaul pitch (31" or something)
Food. Average, but could have been bigger meals.

I think I read on this form that LH was stopping the pre-dinner drinks service. All they offer now is a package of mints, orange juice, and headsets. There is beer or wine with dinner, but no separate bar service.
Can anyone confirm this?

In March I flew Lufthansa ORD-FRA. It was a 744 in Economy and it was terrible. The food was bad compared to what I had in the past. One that kind of got to me was that they didn't serve ice with the drinks. Now I know it's common in Europe that they don't put ice in their drinks but on an airplane, cramped up againts the window.
There were no PTVs but offered some good programming on the screens above. They came around quite often with drink service and had drinks set up in the galley so you could take some. Seats aren't very comfortable, nice looking, but there is also killer pitch.
Donno much more I can say, tried to sleep most of the flight but got a really sore neck.

My experiance on LH A340 ORD-MUC last year in Economy class was quite the contrary. Actually, it was the second best long haul I ever had, matched only by BA's 744 (new interior) on ORD-LHR.
I don't know if these airlines have different standards for Aisan routes, but I these are my choices for transatlantic flights.
