It looks like much more than Premium Economy to me, comparing with other airlines business class the legroom is really cramped!

Uhhhm, you are comparing the business class seat of an Alitalia MD80 with that of an Air France A340, ...
A short haul business class cabin is different from a longhaul business cabin !

But that's their MD80 biz class, isn't it a bit unfair to compare it with biz class on a B747 or A340?

I think compared to other business classes in Europe, incl. Finnair, LOT, TAP, Sabena and Swissair earlier it is average.

Finnair had also 2/2 in C the legroom could have been a littlebig more than on the pic. But I'm sure that AZ offers MORE legroom on their long-haul planes than in the MD80  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The Alitalia Business class is an excellent product, with good leg room, a comfortable seat, and excellent on board service.

In the US, you get a bigger seat, but that's it... In Europe, you get a smaller seat, but its made up by a better overall service, with lounge access, and a proper meal.

How about BA's Business Class in Europe and South Africa! 5 across seating in Business. Looks like AZ has got BA beat.

Last December I have flown in AZ`s Business Class (MD-82) from MXP to DUS. In my opinion has AZ one of the best Business Classes in Europe, the seats are really comfortable and the service is great!

I flew AZ Business class a few years ago from Rome to Africa.

6 abreast big leather seats in a MD11 (I think the picture above), great food served from the a special trolley by beautifull crew with black leather handgloves.

The leg space was very large and the seats were fully electronic.

Does Alitalia have PTV in Magnifica Class on their 742, M11, & 763? I have never really found an answer to this.

Your are comparing the Alitalia's European Business Class with an intercontinental Business Class. All Business Class of the short haul and regional flights are different from the long haul flights. Besides is a single aisle aircraft (MD80) not a widebody plane.

Hi,

i have travelled with AZ's Biz.Class several times and i have to say that considering the Seat and legroom of that MD80 seat, it is one of the best i have experienced for a European short haul product!

Amir.

Alitalia does not currently have PTV on board yet in Magnifica class, on none of the long haul planes

CMB320: QANTAS received their 738s from AA. They are brand new from Boeing, but AA didn't want them due to 9/11(IIRC). That's why they have the same interior.

Qantas:

The seats in your pic are Magnifica (J) on an MD-11. Alitalia dropped their long-range first (Top Class) years ago. Great service compensating for the lack (as yet) of personal entertainment.

Regarding short-haul biz class, it's obviously unfair to compare an MD-80 with a 747! Anyway, as far as first and biz class go on short-range narrowbodies, AZ MD-80s are great. I'm 190 cm tall (6'3'') and I never had any legroom problems. Felt even roomier than Swissair and the service was good.
