For example the time for transition training from the A330/A340 Family is expected to be six to 10 days, considerably less than the 25 days needed for transition training without commonality.

And this is taken from
http://www.airbus.com/product/a380_flight_deck.asp:

The usual time for transfer training from the A330 or A340 is eight to 12 days; considerably less than the 25 needed for transfer from aircraft without this commonality.

Forgive me for speculating that these estimates are optimistic. While cockpit commonality counts for a lot, remember that this aircraft is MUCH larger than the one the pilots will be transitioning from and as such, must have significantly different flying and handling characteristics. I think a good deal more time than 6 - 12 days or so will have to be spent before a pilot is truly comfortable with it. If the plane is full, that pilot will have 555 passengers to worry about, a responsibility nobody can take lightly.

That is the beauty of FBW, the different flying charecteristics can be smoothed out in the software. I can well believe the short conversion time.

This sort of thing is not new, the British Empire Test Pilots School have a/c where, through the use of electronics, they can change how the a/c handles.

Maybe I'm just pedantic, but I find it somewhat unprofessional to publish two different expected training times.
