Well, it is a very welcome piece of good news. I do feel that it is an honour for LH to set up such an entity here in Malta, but as indicated in the articles, it is nothing that extraordinary.

LH technik has similar bases in Shannon and more recently in Bulgaria. But it is still a recognition of achievement for Malta and AirMalta that LH regocnised the potential and excellent track record of the Maltese.

What we Maltese lack is finesse. Recently I visited the hangar where an LH B735 was being serviced. An LH engineer was explaining to Maltese technicians that they should ensure that the door slide gauges should not only be visible but clearly visible to the crew. To my amazement the technician mildly scolded the German engineer not to say such thing infront of me, an AirMalta FA. Why is it that we Maltese accept mediocrity when we are perfectly capable of doing a perfect job? And that is exactly what we have on our planes. The slide gauges are visible but why do we have to accept a gauge facing downwards? I have to kneel down and use a torch to check it. We have come to accept that as the norm. Even if I don't accept it there is not one pilot that will ground the plane until the gauge is repositioned.

I hope that if for nothing else this contract serves to give our engineers an eye to detail.

Not all Maltese are the same. Some do have finesse.
