I cannot believe this, and I love it! I just might have to take advantage of the situation. Basically, Jetsgo is offering all males 21 and over free travel on Sunday, Father's day. You have to go and come back on the same day, so that's the catch. Still, this is unbelievable!

Oh ... does this mean that they are pricing below their cost, and doesn't that make it illegal??? Oh well  Smile

I will see what I can do. However, from Toronto, looking at the schedule, unless it's a turn around, the only thing I can see working out is a Vancouver flight, and returning at night.

The best deal I can find for YYZ based folks is YYZ-YQY-YYZ-YVR-YYZ leaving around 1pm and back at 6am on Monday morning.

LOL, I was thinking of either going to Vancouver for the day, or maybe do a Winnipeg turn. I'd say I have a 50% chance of actually going somewhere, but we'll see. How much do the surcharges add up to?

Also, I wonder why they are limiting this to ages 21 and older, and if they check if an 18 year old booked or not.

My guess is that they figured (rightly) that the 18-21 demographic is the students who are most likely to jump on this promo and hence exclude their target audience of the 21+ market who have more purchasing power.

My top preference will be to do the morning flight out to YVR and back on the redeye, assuming seats are available. I should have my cousin with me, so I look forward to catching up with any other airliners.net folks who wanna do the flights too.

Aaaaaaah, I searched earlier on jetsgo.net and didn't find anything. Also, on the press releases, it didn't say specifically that the male had to be a father. I guess I wont be flying afterall!

However ... how does one prove that they are a father or not? This is probably open to any male 21 years of age or older.

Thanks for the info Rootsboy.

I clarified earlier that the promo is open to both FATHERS and SONS aged 21 and over. Hence, all males aged 21+

Its 1211am now and they still havent activated the booking engine on the website to show the $0 seats.

Yeah, it will have to be a day return back on the noon flight from YVR.

1217am and still no active fares. This is looking like a scam to me...!  Smile

It says on the Jetsgo sight that it's only for fathers ... nothing about sons. This is not a scam at all though. If you fly out on Sunday, you still don't pay for the flight (only any additional charges), but you will pay for your return flight, whenever that may be. Basically, it's very similar to the 2 for 1 sale that Jetsgo was having before it started flying.

Maybe ML will keep interest in Jetsgo by having sales such as these ones on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, as of 1242am, they still havent made ANY seats available at the $0 fare on ANY of the 8 segments they are operating that day to/from YUL, YHZ, YWG or YVR. There is absolutely no change in fare between what it was yesterday to what it is right now, whether for fathers, sons or the holy ghost. I'm waiting till 1am, then shooting off an email to them (reservations center is closed of course) and raising hell in the morning.

I don't think its illegal if it is just a special offer. Westjet and Air Canada have promotional sales all the time just not to the same extent. They have a good chance at making it with this kind of advertising. I think they should stop saying Canada's true discount airline though because from what I see they offer nothing extra to be the true discount airline. You even have to pay for cookies and beverages.

Unfortunately, unless someone fixes their website pretty damn quick they are going to be getting some pretty NEGATIVE publicity out of this gimmick with a bunch of irate people. Not one seat has been available at this promotional rate yet. Zero. Zip. Nada.

1254am and counting.

110am now and still not a damn thing on the site. I just shot off the following email. Lets see what their response (if any) is.

---
Dear Mr.Leblanc,

I read with great interest about your Fathers Day promotion where you were offering free travel on June 16 (for flights sold between June 15 at 12am DST and June 16 at 1159pm DST) and accordingly visited your website from 1145pm on June 14th attempting to snag a pair of seats. Alas, during the entire 75 minute duration that I continuously attempted to get seats on ANY route operated by you through your special Father's Day promotion link at http://www.jetsgo.net/en/0410promo.shtm, I was only offered tickets at the regular rates. None of your 8 flights operated on that day offered even one single seat at the promotional rate.

I was very disappointed with this bait and switch tactic employed by JetsGo. I have recently relocated to Toronto from the United States and was very excited about the prospect of flying on a new low-fare carrier, but it appears that you have begun on a bad footing with false advertising and misleading marketing.

I would appreciate a quick response explaining your misleading actions surrounding this promotion, failing which I will take the matter up with the relevant Consumer Boards and Transportation Canada. I sincerely hope that this entire incident was simply a misunderstanding or technical problem on the part of JetsGo, rather than an intentional attempt to bait and switch a trusting public.

In anticipation of a prompt response,
Yours sincerely,
Sean Mendis

Kicka** letter B747-437B!! Very Professional. I want to send them one about telling the public that they are Canada's true low fair carrier. I can't wait to see the response. I wonder how long it takes? Doesn't take to long with WJ but with them just starting out I presume things are really hectic.

Is the airline industry in Canada really that competitive or does Jetsfo just want the publicity and be quickly noticed?

Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

Well, kudos to JetsGo. I called them this morning at 9am when the reservations center opened and the guy I spoke with told me that there was a problem with the site last nite, but it is fixed now. I accordingly booked me a YYZ-YVR-YYZ roundtrip on Sunday. Outbound at 9am, an hour in Vancouver and back in Toronto for a late dinner.

I also clarified (again) that this promo is open to ANY MALE OVER 21. No parental requirement. Anyone else interested in joining me on the flights? Or maybe at YVR?
