I just flew two Virgin Blue flights from MEL-SYD, SYD-BNE. I thought that they were a great airline (we arrived 15 minutes early on each flight) with good service. The only bad part was that they have horrible terminal spaces that are cramped and basic.
I know Virgin Blue neede to wait for Ansett to sell it's terminals before being able to start lease talks. Recently, however, it seems most have been sold back to the airports. On Ansett's website it says the following Ansett terminals have been sold:
--Brisbane Airport domestic terminal was sold to Brisbane Airport Corporation,
--Melbourne Domestic Terminal to Australian Pacific Airports Melbourne,
--Ansett's Sydney Domestic Terminal to Sydney Airports Corporation,
--Canberra domestic terminal facilities to Canberra International Airport, and
--Ansett's interests in Cairns domestic terminal to the Cairns Port Authority.
Now I'm just wondering when Virgin Blue could be seen moving into these bigger spaces. Let's hope that they can move in soon.

DJ have already moved into the CNS facilities, but as fot the rest of the country it's a 'wait-and-see' approach.
Hopefully soon, as I agree with you on the cramped situations.
in Adelaide we sometimes have three flights arrive at approximately the same time, annd with a carousel for luggage being only 20 metres long, you can guess the outcome when all the luggage arrives!!!!
Mind you, I love the Virgin Blue service and whole approach towards it's customers.

DJ uses the Common Terminal in BNE which is part of the main domestic terminal.
Negotiations for use of the "A" AN Concourse in SYD have been delayed pending the airport's privatisation. DJ want at least six of this concourse's gates whilst QF want all of the B concourse.
Negotiations for the MEL terminal continue and it is expected that DJ would want most of the A concourse at this airport though the airport owners will probably want some modifications to this terminal first.
DJ is keen to get access to the AN terminals in ADL and PER. ADL is confused as the owners and QF really want a completely new terminal whilst DJ would be happy with the existing domestic "shed."
I believe DJ will be moving in AN's OOL and CBR terminals shortly.
