MEA Flying To GRU (Sao Paulo)

Yesterday I was looking at some pictures of aircraft at GRU airport, Sao Paulo, Brasil. One of them was of a MEA B747-200 and the caption underneath suggested that the aircraft was on a regular service from Beirut to Sao Paulo.

Could anyone give any information on this service? Perhaps why it was operated (I don't know, I am guessing that Brasil had economic ties with Lebanon).

MEA does not fly to GRU anymore. They used to fly to GRU because there is a large Lebanese/Arab population in Sao Paulo.

About 8 million Lebanese people live in Brazil. MEA used to fly there, as well as SYD and some other places, but they've stopped the flights.

the stop was at abidjan. They stpoed this flight when they took out the 747's of the fleet in 1997.
