ANSETT LAUNCHES NEW SYDNEY- AUCKLAND CARGO SERVICE

Ansett Australia Cargo launched a new Trans-Tasman service yesterday.

Scheduled to depart Sydney Monday to Thursday at 22.15, the B767-200 will arrive in Auckland at 3.15 and be back in Sydney at 6.05 the following day.

"This service continues our focus on the development of the Trans-Tasman express market," said Tony Markou, General Manager, Ansett Australia Cargo.

"As well as providing continuity of service and demonstrating a commitment to our forwarder customers, we will be supporting the needs of our key express customers - FedEx, UPS and AEI," Mr Markou said.

The containerised aircraft will provide 90 cubic metres of capacity and 22,000 kilos net uplift.

The service is a joint commercial arrangement between Ansett Australia Cargo and Air New Zealand Cargo.

"Air New Zealand want to develop their markets through to Hong Kong and Japan. Feeding into Ansett's line services from Sydney to Hong Kong and Osaka will be possible with this service," Mr Markou said.

Ansett Australia has provided a Trans-Tasman service since 1993, using a 737 QC, followed by a DC8 and most recently a 727 freighter.

Ansett Australia Cargo has recently restructured, providing a focus on airport-to-airport cargo services. They operate an aircraft freighter network throughout Australia, as well as a Trans-Tasman service and other connections globally.

Additional services provided by the business include a perishable goods service and specialised air charters.

Does this mean the wet leased Kitty Hawk B727-200F will be returned to the USA? Are Ansett using one of their own B767-200's?

Does anybody know?
