AIRLINERS.NET CREW DATABASE EDITOR
I was watching Discovery Wings today and watched a 1/2 hour show called "Airport". I thinks it is a series and is filmed at LHR. It was a good show, its the first time I've seen it. Anyone know anything about it?

Of course even budget airlines get in the act nowadays - 'Airline' shows on ITV at 5.30 on Mondays and is based around Liverpool John Lennon and Luton airports giving a daily portrayal of life with Easyjet. It would appear that life with Easyjet is anything but Easy - but fair play to Stellios - tonight's episode had him coming to Luton personally to dish out compensation to Easyjet passengers who had been delayed more than 4 hours. The compensation basically amounted to him giving everyone delayed their money back whilst still giving the passengers their flight albeit a few hours late !!
What is more apparent is that half of the people who fly with Easyjet haven't got a clue !!

Its on UK horizons all of the time too, about a month ago UK Horizons had an "Airport" weekend with every episode to date back to back. It can get very samey the more you watch it though, and the new series needs some characters in it, instead of boring run of the mill people.... ...ah well... there you go.

It is a good program, been runniong for years now, think its in its at least 4th, maybe even 5th series. The BBC started a craze of such programs!!!! Since then we've seen airline, which in its first series followed Britannia Airways, then moved to easyjet. the old easyjet series are shown on ITV at about 5:30 (as stated above) but the new series is in full flow and ITV show it at 8:30pm on mondays and/or fridays (their scheduling has gone to pot recently!!! ref. World Cup!!)
We also saw the series Holiday Airline which followed Monarch. this egan running on ITV last year at the beginning of September but was cancelled due to Sept11th. However, they were due to cotinue the series last friday at 8:30 but it was canceleed due to a special football program (ref. england being knocked out world cup!). it is not on this friday either as Airline is (the easyjet version), so qwho knows when Monarch's holiday airline will return???!!!
Furthermore we have seen special one-off programs, such as Holiday Airport which was 2 specials based at palma, amongst others.

I watch Airport of Discovery Wings sometimes, it's a decent show. But how about the Airport season filmed at MIA? It was filmed at MIA during spring/summer 2001. As that begun airing yet on BBC?

'Airport' is my favourite TV programme, i watch every series. The new series has begun on the BBC recently, the first new episode was screened on Thursday at 8:30 PM GMT. If only there were more programmes like this focusing on the major airports of the world like AMS/ORD/CDG/FRA/JFK etc, that would be so cool.

Have you seen the Lagos Airport series currently running on Discovery in the UK? Quite a contrast to the LHR operation - throwing petrol on the undergrowth and setting fire to it was hilarious - particulalry as they used the firemen to do it - 'we are paid to put out fires not light them' was a classic line.

Another VERY interesting programme was on The Discovery Channel at around 4-5PM UK time. The programme was called 'The Flight' and I found it one of the best aviation programmes/documentaries in a looooooong time! Discovery Wings seems to show far too many repeats these days.

Lagos Airport - oooh yeah, i remember that, I used to watch it all the time....until Discovery Wings decided to show repeats all the time. I always watched it for the laugh as things seem......different at that place. I mean...you dont find anyone living in a mud hut inside the airport perimeter under the threshold at LHR do you? At Lagos its very common!
Flight Deck was also a very good programme....until Discovery Wings couldnt find anything new so they showed more repeats. The KLM 744 flight that was flimed was my favorite.
Is it me or has Discovery Wings gone from anyone elses favorite channel to one of the worst?? Because it has for me.
I also remember the programme from LAX, with all the dodgey mexicans getting caught bringing drugs into the US and people with firearms in their suitcases. Makes me not want to bother going to LAX.

Discovery Wings used to show it every Sunday night, don't think they still do though. I saw the episode yesterday on Discovery Wings. I was suprised to see it be a new one -- I was unaware there was a new series.

VgnAtl747- It's still on at 8:00pm Eastern on Discovery Wings Channel. The episode is reaired about 5 times a day with the last being at 3:00pm. I really enjoy this show, I've watched it for about 2 years now & it continues to interest me.
I started a post about Airport in the Non-Aviation forum a few weeks ago. There's a lot of info in there about the show, including the link to the BBC site for the show.

Arsenal & Richardw, the BBC sold the succesfull format to several European stations. The german channel ZDF indeed went shooting at FRA airport, and the series were broadcasted summer 2000 until the TVchannel decided to cancel any further programming after the news of the Concorde crash.
In Belgium it was on the dutch channel VRT as well, in the 'het leven zoals het is', 'life like it is' series. I'm not a TV pro but I had the impression that the makers closely stuck by the BBC format.

i think there was an 'airport usa' that was filmed at miami. but it wasn't as good as the heathrow one. they only had airport usa for one series.
also channel 5 had 'hollywood's airport' which was lax, but it didn't last long either.
