Tour operator MyTravel Group has chosen Ryanair's sales and marketing director Tim Jeans as managing director of its soon-to-be-launched budget airline.
MyTravel said he would be moving over before the start of the winter season.
The group added that MyTravel Airways UK will take over some of the planes currently used by its charter operation to provide it with a low-cost, low-risk entry into a high-growth market.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Jeans said: “The UK’s charter airlines have the lowest costs in the industry. MyTravel will soon be delivering more accessible and flexible air travel, from its chosen UK base.
“The low fares business is still in its infancy and there are still huge opportunities for new entrants.”
MyTravel’s chief executive, Tim Byrne, said the group’s strategy was to continue to develop into a globally-recognised brand that satisfied all of its customers’ leisure travel needs. This meant constant innovation and the introduction of new products.

There seems to be some confusion over the name here (well, i'm confused anyway!!!!)
From what i can understand MyTravel Airways IS the charter operation (the old Airtours International). So if the charter airline is Mytravel airways, then it just seems stupid to call the low cost airline the same?? Could cause some confusion, and be a marketing nightmare. Anybody agree?? Any thoughts or comments??

Not sure what the name is.
Wouldnt be surprised if the low cost base is MAN or LGW.
Outsiders would be BHX,NCL,GLA I would think.

The "new" airline will have a totally separate identity and marketing, but will be run as an internal division of MyTravel Airways.
I don't think any airport other than Manchester stands much of a chance of being the base of the new airline. Manchester is their main base, and the obvious place where the synergies of MyTravel operating flights under 2 separate brands would be greatest.
There are too many costs associated with Leeds, it isn't a major MyTravel base so there isn't any way you could get economies of scale there - in the summer there aren't any MyTravel aircraft at LBA at all, MYT flights are operated by a SkyService A320 with Canadian flightdeck crews...
Don't get me wrong, LBA is a great airport and I've flown from there numerous times and enjoyed the experience, but I don't think it's an obvious low-cost base for MyTravel
