I know that the blended wing/body concept has been around a while but I wonder if this is Boeing's attempt to slowly pitch the idea and see the response. There have been a few posts suggesting that they may abandon the Sonic Cruiser.

This concept is something they got in the MDD merger. It was a concept they devised as a future airliner. But the idea is not all that new, Northrop during the 50s considered building an airliner based on their flying wing bomber concept. Really this idea has little to no chance of being built at this time. Airports already had to spend money to accomodate the A380, so there's no telling what kind of modifications would have to be done to accomodate the BBA. The design that is the Sonic Cruiser is a good looking design, maybe they should build it, just don't hype it as a faster aircraft.

Actually this plane would take up less space than a 744 but would have greater capacity. That is part of the appeal. Personally, I hope they don't build it as envisage. The idea that there will be no windows really kills any appeal it would have for me as a passenger.
