After submitting the last post of the BA Union Flag fleet, I thought why not get together photos of BA liveries on the fleet from the past to the present. Some people were fond of certain liveries so I thought Id get those fleets together. From old fleets to the current fleet. Here they are.

It took a while, gathering a bit at a time over the last 2 days. I was just interested in seeing all the aircraft fleets of BA in the different liveries. Its nice to see all the aircraft together.  Smile

Tell me about it. I thought about it then thought no. Dont ask me how because it is just as important as BOAC. Anyhoo, its still nice to see the aircraft together. Ill put BEA in later.

One of my personal faves between the Union and Benyhone. Being Scottish, I am going to be dissapointed when this tail disappears for good. If any of you are wandering where I get the time to produce these collections, it's world cup final night and as it's on at a daft time in the morning, I'm just staying up to watch it.

You are right .I too think it will be a shame to see Bennyhone dissappear, and I'm English! I would love to see four tails being used-Bennyhone,Chatham Dockyard,Chelsea Rose and something that obviously represented Wales. That would make it BRITISH Airways.

There was an additional livery done in the mid-80s as a test. I think it was on a B737-200 like the one below.

Basically, it had a polished aluminium fuselage instead of the white paint on the top half of the fuselage. Very like AA. Looked very nice, but it obviously didn't catch on!

Here it is taken in Aberdeen in 1985. I also thought it looked great. Wander why it didnt catch on?

I don't think you have realised the enormity of the task you have set yourself. If you REALLY want to post pictures of BA and it's ancestors, then you should include at least the following too:

Imperial Airways
British Airways (the original airline merged with Imperial in 1940)
Railway Air Services
Olley Air Services
Cambrian Airways
BKS
Northeast
Aer Lingus (yes - BEA owned a large chunk of Aer Lingus for 25 years)
British Caledonian (taken over by BA in 1987)
Dan Air (bought by BA in 1992)
BEA Helicopters
British Air Services
BEA - there are at least two more schemes to be included for BEA, the all silver "Fling Key" scheme of the late 40's and early 50's and the white and peony red (as seen on Ambassadors and early Viscounts) of the mid to late 50's.

Not to mention the original colour schemes of the current franchise holders and/or subsidiaries (Business Executive, Loganair, Brymon etc)

Good luck.

I did think about a few more of those, but I decided just to post some of the liveries of BA that people said they liked, or missed. I am fond of the liveries from the 'British Livery' of the 70s and 80s up to the latest one. I thought it would be nice getting all the aircraft I could find that wore those liveries together as a fleet. Its nice seeing the aircraft together. Plus I had a good few hours to kill until the world cup final, its on in the middle of the night here. If I was going to do the above i would have only included 1 or 2 of each.

The current Union jack livery is my favourite BA colourscheme of all time, it looks smart, classy and looks very 'British'. The planes look great in it.

Is there a website dedicated to the World Tails programme? Perhaps a list of which aircraft was wearing which scheme, possoble with pics/drawings of the actual designs...

Wasn't Benyhone going to be the new livery of BCal before they were absorbed? I might be mental but I'm sure I saw an artists impression of some of their aircraft at the LGW South once. Anyone else remember this?

Well done that man! It would be great to see a B747-400 with the BOAC colour scheme. Could they not do it as a nostalgia theme, a bit like some other airlines have done, or would this upset Margaret Thatcher again???

BA did once paint an aircraft in a special livery. I believe they painted their final 747 100 either on the port side or on both sides in the BOAC livery shortly before it's retirement. Can anybody back this up. I believe it was 1998 or 99.

Dexter,

http://www.avnclub.demon.co.uk/utopiacls.htm
for a list of Aircraft in the workdwide fleets, and the colours they are wearing, and some other info [including liveries a/c were wearing when they left as is the case for some 767s and many 757s] - be careful tho as many aircraft have more than one entry because they have been repainted [some more times than others].

http://www.avnclub.demon.co.uk/images.htm
for info on each world tail design, and some associated images.

Hope this helps.
