I was wondering if anyone had any info on the status of construction at Hobby Airport? Completion date or any pics. I haven't flown out of HOU in a minute-been flying IAH therefore I haven't been out there to see the progress.
Last I read, there were to be four (4) gates ready in the new concourse sometime in September 2002. Presumably, SWA would use these to replace about the same number of gates in the old "A" concourse (from which they run all their DAL flights--everything else is in the "C" concourse). American's Eagle has a gate on "A" as well, and I guess they'll move to "B".
I don't know which part of the new concourse would have the first four new gates, but I'm guessing that it would be the "runway" side, in the center. This would seem (to me) to be the ones most "out of the way" of continuing construction, and especially demolition of the old "A" concourse once vacated. (You can see from the photo how close the old "A" is to the new concourse.)
Next time I'm through there, I'll snap/'upload some pictures....

Actually, Southwest flies to DAL out of C concourse, the rest are in A. American and Delta are in C also. I believe B is the first to get torn down. Not sure where they moved CO and Airtran. I haven't seen it since last March.

You're right, I had it backwards.... (bonk!)
AirTran is on "B", and I'm not sure CO flies out of HOU anymore (they may, I just don't recall seeing any signage last time I was down there).
As far as the order of the old terminals coming down, the first to go would be "C" (so they can finish that side of the new concourse). Once that's done, SWA would move out of "A", all the "B" folks would go to the south side of "A" (while construction was progress just north of the existing "A") and "B" would then come down. Don't know if that's correct or not, just what I heard.

Yup, I thought you just got in backwards. I did know the order of the concourse demolitions but I forgot, its kinda confusing, and I can't find an explanation on their website.

I had asked about the Hobby Airport construction as well, a few weeks ago... the Houston Airport System website is not that great. It languishes for the better part of a year, then they update it and don't touch it for another year. As a result, there hasn't really been any information on the construction progress in many, many months.
I'll be flying through HOU in early September, so ideally I'll get to fly out of the new gates (although airport construction never seems to open on time; I'm not holding my breath.)
The Hobby construction seems very similar to the rebuild currently underway at Chicago Midway (a new terminal built on top of the old one.) It's nice to see Southwest finally occupying some new terminals and getting the gate space it deserves and needs at its major airports.
