At least 1000 passengers are trapped in Taipei due to Typhoon Ramasuun. On Wednesday night, rare and severe turbulant hit Taipei, causing airplanes cancelling departure or diverting.

An Air Macau A320 and EVA Airways (744) returned to Macau and Hong Kong after attempting to land twice. China Airlines from Bangkok diverted to Kaohsiung. Cathay Pacific flew back to Hong Kong around midnight after trying to land 3 times.

The severe turbulant occured around 1 to 2 knots at the head of the runway, wind gusts up to 25 to 35 knots. Severe turbulant was observed in the middle section of the runway.

Following flights has been postponed till further notice:
B7 to KHH,
SQ to LAX (they learned their lesson)

I wondered why there was a Mandarin MD11 and a CI 738 parked in remote stands here.

As for SQ, to learn a lesson, surely they would have to admit doing something wrong in the first place!! Big grin

I went on SIA's website and they said that SQ30 landed at 2200. Was this before or during the severe turbulance at CKS? I also noted that they are due to depart at 1430 Taipei time with a 1040 arrival at LAX on July 4.

I checked the weather at weather.com. The first typhoon passed already but it looks as if there is another one to come. The first typhoon looks like it is headed to South Korea or southwestern Japan.

Hmm, perhaps that explains why SQ30 yesterday (9V-SPM) was so eager to depart .. even from 20R....
