Why are the windows closed on one side, and open on the other?

My guess would be the sun comming through the windows on that side of the aircraft. Keeping the shades closed helps keep the aircraft cooler.


Two rules in aviation, don't hit anything and don't run out of gas, cause if you run out of gas yer gonna hit something.

I go with the sun explination. I flew into Zihuatenejo Mexico one time on an Alaska MD80. When we arrived the crew told us to close all the window shades to help keep the plane cool as possible during the 1 hour turnaround. The midday sun was quite intense.
