I would appreciate any information on Southwest's operation of the 727.
I was quite surprised to see this picture.

I think they had 2 or 3 727's in place for some late- to- arrive 737's, but I am not positive.

WN leased a total of 7 727-200s . One from BN, 6 from PE. They operated from May 1979 to 1985 or 1986. It wasn't to cover late deliveries. Rather, it was a matter of new 737-200s not really being desirable as the -300 was on the horizon. WN chose to lease the 727 while waiting for the 737-300.


Quit calling an airport ramp "Tarmac" and a taxiway "runway".

IMissPiedmont- off just slightly.

We had 3 727's leased from Branniff from October 1979 to July 1982. They were merely used on high density routes, but were tossed out soon after.
