That's just bizarre. I have no idea what they are doing in Denver. This has got to be a first since they left way back in the Stapleton days.

My guess is they're checking out the cool facilities in Denver and what they're missing out on.  Big grin

Your answer is as good as mine.

I heard from an airport authority friend here in Denver that a few SWA execs were on board and were meeting / checking things out at Denver.

Now, to me, a Saturday business trip just sounds like an odd time for this, but I do not "hang-out" with SWA folk, so who knows.

Maybe someday. . .DIA

Yes , I know those flight numbers for charter but as I said what or why fly to? For military or sport teams or test route or whatever... OK?

Thanks,

I'd say DEN is pretty much filled up. I don't know how successful Southwest would be in Denver. One thing is for sure, United would attack, and I mean attack hard.

One thing is almost for sure though, if Southwest comes to Denver, Frontier will suffer even more.......

There aren't any free gates in DEN currently. So they would either have to share gates (which I know they don't like) or wait until 2004 for the Concourse A expansion to be complete.

I still don't see why SWA would want to serve DEN now though. In the past relations between Denver and Southwest haven't been very good. Plus Denver's high operating costs have greatly discouraged Southwest in the past. Why would they come now?

I guess anything is possible though.

COS would be a better choice for them however......

BA, I think wherever SWA goes, they can figure out a way to make it work for a profit, plus think about all the SWA regulars who will only fly that airline. They are all over the country. Now think about how many of them would come to Denver. That is a huge market, not to mention the untapped SWA market that is hibernating here in Denver.

I think that if they started up an operation at COS, they could have a great mini-hub just like WestPac did before their fatal move to Denver.

Maybe if SWA started a mini-hub at COS, they could start up feeder service to DIA, to keep costs down. That way you could fly SWA with a quick connection at COS and fly to a few major cities with only one or two stops.

Bottom line is, they could make it work, they've done that everywhere else. The only reason they pull out is they are fed up with delays, i.e.:SFO.

I wouldn't want them to hurt F9 in any way either. I think there would be a to survive for each airline though. On that note, I would hope for an SWA hub at COS.

Hopefully they'll come to COS. What exactly have you heard about this charter trip to DEN?

I've only heard what I've posted above. There has been no other news that I can find on this event throughout the day.

SWA to COS, I find this likely probably in the near future. There have been large numbers of people pulling for SWA service in Colorado.

I don't know if it is still a "Texan" thing aqainst Coloradoans, like it has been played up to be. I would like to think "business is business"; there are no lines drawn in the sand here. If there is a market, go after it.

If it is "Texan pride", well that is flat out stupid. Maybe it is in the SWA Handbook. . ."Never serve the state of Colorado because of the long-standing rivalry between our two states. . ."

Gosh I hope I'm wrong, but who knows. . .besides Herb.

WN has served Colorado in the past. In the early/mid-80s, WN flew to DEN/Stapleton. WN has in the past stated an aversion to DEN/International because of the high costs.

Sure, WN could probably make money in CO, but seems like they don't just serve places they can make money, but rather serve places they can make more money.

Tcttx,

Colorado is the 4th largest air travel market in the nation. The fact is SWA is missing out. Not only that, but SWA can charge slightly higher fares than there usual since Colorado is higher yielding than many other states.

SWA is missing out.

Texans have nothing against colorodo, it's the other way around. Most colorodans seem to resent the fact that hordes of texans come there to visit. I don't know why, but if you're ever asked where you're from while in colorado, don't say texas.

Airline execs on a 3AM charter ? Good one. Besides, wouldn't they be coming in from Love Field ?

Dallas is where Southwest is based, but that doesn't mean they have to come from there.

Don't forget that Midway does have it's share of Southwest executives aswell. Southwest has big operations in Midway....

KAUSpilot,

Ehhhh.....I guess that's about right.  Big grin
