The airfare on 9/11/02 is no cheaper than any other day. I may need to go JFK-DCA in Mid September and I may fly on 9/11 (I want to). What do you guys thing. Am I being stupid and unsafe (like my family thinks)? Is is going to be really tight security? If I do fly on 9/11 what can I expect? Will it be buisness as usual?

9/11/02 is just another day. No differnt than 9/10/02. Well...I think that many will be pausing for a moment of silence during the day, but other than that, I think that business will be as usuall.

I wouldn't be surprised, however, to see the airlines running specials for that day (or week) within the next few months. Just keep your eyes open.

I saw no specials. I usually place my ticket orders over the phone but I don't have the balls to say to a human being "what are the fares from New York to Wahington DC on September 11th"

A witty representative might say something like: "Would you like a connection in Pensilvania?"

I don't think anything's going to happen again like that. just a lot of sadness and flags.

Well, If I'm correct, 9/11 is now a federal holiday (Patriot Day). And isn't it true that there is generally less air travel (and hence more specials) on the actual day of the holiday (i.e. Christmas Day, New Year's Day, etc.)?

Oh please it is just another day. No offense but you family's imagination seems to be in over drive. Besides if there is less traffic that means flights will not be as full so you might have the row to your self and on empty flights service seems to be better. So go for it.

Does that mean we get off from work on 9/11? Patriot Day?

Here's a copy of the law designating 9/11 a holiday. I'm not sure whether or not this implies we get off work or not.

Until now, I did not think that even Congress could steralize 9/11 like that. Now an honest question: Who would feel 100% comfortable calling American or United airlines and sayig: "what are the fares from New York to Wahington DC on September 11th" ?

I probably wouldn't feel comfortable calling them with that question, but that wouldn't stop me from searching the 'net to answer my question.
