An insider report from the airline industry has told the media that Dragonair is providing 50% ticket discount to travel agencies in Taipei for one-way trip from TPE to HKG. The price is HKD$500, about half of the original price.
This discount campaign is part of the celebration of the first Taipei service. The campaign will last till the end of Summer vacation. Dragonair receives 22 weekly flight service between Taipei and Hong Kong.

They sure have to!! That's the policy of the travel agency, as there are lots of travel agencies having the discount, not just one of them. I used to work in the travel agency, so I know they would give the general public a discount. There maybe, however a few which won't due to the fact that they would say that they did not get any discounts from KA. It will only cause bad reputation to them.

I think it's very good for customers on the Golden Route in terms of cheap fares. Good for them!
Dragonair is giving away 99 free tickets to Taipei from HKG every day from July 12 to coincide with the launch of that route on July 22.
A local HK travel agent said that Dragonair will offer a 60-day HKG-TPE roundtrip ticket at HK$2150, and HK's other airlines is offering a similar ticket at HK$2650 for a 14-day ticket. China Airlines would offer a 14-day ticket for HK$1750 and EVA Air for HK$1950.
According to a KA staff memo, more, "exciting promotions on Taipei," will occur in the future.

Dragonair is putting pressure on Cathay to lower its fares & I think they will lower them as they're going to lose market share to KA. KA is really the biggest winner in the new air services deal signed by the HK & Taiwan authorities, whereas in comparison to KA CX didn't get much at all.
You can bet CX is doing all it can to fly to Mainland China now...
