Air New Zealand flight NZ038 was forced to delay 20 hours after the pilot found technical problems on the 767 on July 6. Due to the tarmac at TPE was full and TPE was hit by thunder storms, the plane was forced to divert to another area at TPE. NZ asked Qantas for help about the problem.
The plane finally took-off on July 7th 1530LT, 20 hrs after the original departure time. The long delay was due to no available spare parts in TPE. The spare parts were sent from Japan.
231 passengers were sent to airport hotel, and NZ offered free meal and telephone cards. No major complains from the passengers.
