I was looking at booking a flight from SYD to CNS in August and saw that one of the flights is operated by AWOPS for Qantas. I have read in other threads that this means the flight is not a "real" QF flight. My question is this, how different is the service on AWOPS from QF, and if given a choice would you fly AWOPS or QF. Thanks -- MSY-MSP

For all intents and purposes MSY, it's a normal Qantas flight with the normal crummy Big grin Qantas service.
It's just that the aircraft utilised is on lease from AWOPS (a new term for me. I'm only familiar with AWAS-Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services).
I'm not sure if it's a wet lease though but I do wonder why they print that fact in the schedules; airlines don't usually have that if it's a leased a/c do they?
Maybe it's some sort of disclaimer in case something goes wrong.  Smile

AWAS are no longer in the wet lease game. They sold it off. QF bought it and it was renamed AWOPS. Have a look thru the regional forums (dunnunda & godzone) on http://www.pprune.org. There's quite a bit of info on the subject there.

Thanks Rmm,
I knew I'd seen it before but did a search here and came up with nothing so it must've been Pprune.

Thanks for the reply,

So basically no difference b/n the two. So I guess it is a toss-up as to which one to fly. I am assuming it is the same seating configuration. If it is charter seating let me know and i definately will not fly on that flight.

Aircraft are not in QF 763 config though it is not charter config either. The FAs that I know on the AWOPS aircraft are QF employees. It is all QF service.

RMM - was that the Nordstress division of AWAS that was sold, or was it something else set up purely for QF ? I thought Nordstress was still going strong, but admittedly haven't been up to date with AWAS since it went off shore some time ago.
Cheers. Al.

Al,

Technically it was Nordstress, but mention that name around here and most people scratch there head. I'd only heard the term Nordstress in the early 90's after doing some work for AWAS and a pay check came from "Nordstress Hong Hong."

No doubt you know the rest. BTW, HYI leaves for Berlin shortly, possibly this weekend.

regards,
Rmm
