Does anyone know why the rebranded TWA S-80s in AA's fleet were repainted without the black nose? Personally I think they look better without the black nose, however, I was just curious as to why the difference. They also left out the "Super 80" titles on these planes. Why?
We are the people of American Airlines. And we know why you fly.

The black nose is a neoprene boot cover used to protect the radome from damage. Now they have paint that is just as good as the black boot. So its up to the airline. As for why they don't call the TWA MD-80s "Super 80s" I dont know.

Yes. I do get it. You post a legitimate thread about the AA MD-80 noses. I reply with my legitimate opinion on the matter. If my choices of words is not what you like, then that's your problem and not mine.

Jmc1975, no one is judging your opinion about the black noses. SOme people like em black, some like em gray. I think both look good. What everyone has a problem with is your choice of words, specifically describing the black nose as looking "gay." While you and your friends may use the word to describe people or things (My friends and I do!) it is not the best choice of words for a public forum such as this.
If you were going to give a speech about the radomes on the AA/TWA MD-80s to an aucience of several thousand people, would you really choose to describe them as "gay?" Or would you use another word that is much less likely to offend some people, such as "stupid" or "in bad taste?"
Posting on this forum is just like giving a speech to a croud of thousands and you need to be careful how you word things. Keep in mind that there are TONS of gay people on this forum and most probably don't appreciate their lifestyle being used to describe a radome (or anything else) in a derogitory manner.

You guys jump all over someone for saying that something is "gay" looking. But when 20 other members on the forum make fun of overweight people and how the airline's policies affect them, you say nothing.

Looks like only two people commented on his choice of words. The second person comment was made only because he agreed with the first. The REST of the posts were made trying to explain to Jcm that the two comments were not judging his opinion rather his choice of words. I could care less if he said something looks gay. Like I said, I use it around friends all the time. Had he not missed the point of the posts and assumed they were attacking his opinion, this thread would not be as long as it is.
