Travolta's Flying Schedule: Attention MEL Spotters

As just about everyone across the planet has read or heard, John Travolta is undertaking his Spirit of Freedom tour in the ex QF 707. Security has therefore been extraordinarily tight which has resulted in the ridiculous policy of keeping Travolta's flying times very hush hush. Even QF pilots have been excluded from all the glitz and excitement. And for what idiotic reason is it? So, in order for as many of us to see it as possible, can we possibly ask everyone who sees it to record the exact time of departure from their city so we can roughly work out what time it will arrive at its next port of call? Tomorrow he's scheduled to fly from MEL to PER so will some MEL spotters please tell us when he leaves so we can catch it too and us PERers shall do the same for the SINers!

Cheers, KRISWORLDB777

Agree with KrisworldB777 that spotters have to come together to piece this jigsaw.

Can anyone trace its tour so far . . . where did it all begin? In Seattle or LAX . . . could anyone provide the dates, departure and arrival times in each location, and what activities did it undertake in your city?

Thanks for any information you could share.

Does anyone suppose he might have any plans of taking his "world tour" into Toronto (YYZ)... or anywhere in Canada for that matter. Although, I suspect he'd stop in Vancouver instead of Toronto if he did in fact come to Canada at all.

Right now, his ETA in SIN is FRI night. Not too good for us in SIN. I wonder why he loves landing in the night.

He has already been to Canada.
There are some 13 scheduled official stops on the tour, with others in between, for fueling, rest and the like.
N707JT departed LAX for Vancouver on July 1st. Remained there for a couple of days, then was in Honolulu on July 4th. From Honolulu to Papeete, Tahiti, then arrived in Auckland, New Zealand mid last week. Arrived in Sydney evening of July 11th. Departed Sydney for Melbourne evening of July 15th, arriving there around 9pm. Will be departing for Perth either Wednesday 17th or possibly Thursday 18th.
The arrival/departure times and even dates in some cases, on the tour are not rigid, due to the changing tour schedule and other requirements
( presentations, interviews, appearances and the like ).

Regards

Forgot to add.
Apart from his television interviews and all the other elements of the 'roadshow', JT rekindled his love affair with the Lockheed Constellation aircraft, when on Saturday 13th, he flew on the beautiful H.A.R.S. Super Constellation, VH-EAG, on a two hour trip, out of the Qantas Jet Base.
A photo shoot also took place with the B707 and Connie together.

In the mid 1980s JT owned what is now N494TW, the fully airworthy 'MATS' Connie, based out of Tucson, Arizona.

Qantas are saying a "late arrival this evening" so that would probably mean 2200 onwards. No word yet on the parking location!

KrisworldB777 -
The YSSY Board is saying the 707 will stop at Adelaide first before moving to Adelaide, arriving in Perth late late tonight. JT however, will NOT be onboard. Perhaps on a QF747-400 in the RHS?

Just spoke to QF again....they seem to think that JT will be aboard tonight. But who knows....I don't think he will be in the RHS of a 744 because QF is no longer operating 747s into PER from MEL. Its surprising however that the media haven't tried to grab onto his arrival time - there is absolutely nothing. So I think I'll take what QF have said and perhaps head out to check it out later tonight. Again, if people from Melbourne who see it would kindly report upon its departure, I and others would be most grateful!

Cheers, KRISWORLDB777

I just got back from work at the QF Engineering Base in MEL, and caught a glimpse of the 707 sitting on the tarmac just outside the 737 maintenance hangar.

Apparently the V-Jet is leaving MEL tonight for ADL. It will only be in ADL for an hour's refuelling stopover, before continuing on to PER.

Looks like they're going for an early morning arrival into PER, so all you WA boys (and girls!) better set your alarm clocks and head out early if you wanna catch the bird. (How ironic, hey?)

He departed 2200 from MEL, apparently was scheduled for 2000 but aborted t/o due to engine problems.

He missed ADL.

Oh buggery! Isn't this a load of shit for all of us aviation geeks??? I'm about ready to hit Geoff Dixon's teeth down his throat. So I suppose that means he'll be into PER around 0005. Was JT actually flying the aircraft or was he, as said previously. following tomorrow via other modes? QF seemed to think that he was flying himself in. Its 2340 now, I'm in a house of asleep non-aviation morons so I suppose I shall be staying put hopefully seeing the glimmer of a few 38 year old lights. Hopefully his departure will be a little more successful. But thanaks of course to all of you who have posted info on the site. For those of you awaiting in SIN, I will do my very best to ensure you can all catch it too. Provided the old lady gets off the ground!! Wow!

It's turning out to be The Spirit of Being-Quite-Unfriendly Tour... it's seems to be more a "visit-cities-and-perform-press-meetings-extoiling-Qantas" tour rather then a "come-and-see-my-plane" tour.

JT must be laughing... he gets a paint job, wash and wax for for nothing...

--->Zanadou!  Big thumbs up

For those in Perth, remember he will be giving an interview on Today Tonight at 1830. Perhaps then he'll shed some light as to why this has turned into A Sprit of Bullshit tour! Will find out when the bloody thing is departing so that i can somehow see her if she makes it into the air.  Angry
