Hello all.. I am currently @ the Red Roof Inn at DTW, and wanted to ask about a couple strange sights today.. I saw a KLM MD-11 arriving ( I thought KLM wasn't flying their birds to DTW ), a Lufthansa 747-200 (Cargo, I think), and sitting by the hanger near the old int'l term, a Lufthansa A340. Do they even bring them in there??

The KLM MD-11 is normal service daily now..except for a few days a week, they will fly in a 747-300...Lufthansa does fly in a A-340 everyday also...as far as the Lufthansa 747..hard to say why it was here today.

Thanks Hammer. I had remembered reading a while back that KLM was not flying their birds to DTW.. Glad they started again.. Any idea if the 743 is scheduled for tomorrow? and the arrival time, if you know it..

Thanks Chad..that does help immensly..
Air757200, I do think it was Lufthansa Cago, as t looked to be a 747-200, rather than the -400.. I am told they only use the -200 for carogo now..

KLM started service back up to DTW in June right about the time the 4th DTW-AMS route was added. There is a 10:23a NW flight that comes in from Amsterdam daily and the KLM 617 flight replaced the Northwest DC-10 flight that used to come in at the same time.
Lufthansa was using 747-400s for a while last winter instead of the A340.
I too havent seen Lufthansa Cargo for a few months. They were flying both 742s and MD-11s for a while.
Had you been at DTW on Tuesday you would have seen our once a week Royal Jordanian A310 that flies in that is supposed to increase to daily from what I understand after the other international airlines move to McNamara.
BTW- both Airways and Airliner World Magazine do articals on DTW.

LH Cargo once used DTW has a central point for its MD-11 fleet. They have disucssed before, and i'm unaware of the current status, with BAX to move into their facility at TOL and run several flights to Europe and to South America. However, there was a delay in the new cold storage facility which is scheduled to open later this year or early next which should respark the interest in getting at least the South America and Africa flights.
