The aircraft B-HMD,HME and HMF (CX and AHK) were originally operated by Varig. But these aircraft were first ordered by Libyan Arab Airlines.

In the publication Great Airliners Volume Three Boeing SP there is a picture that shows one of these aircraft in full Libyan cls.

1. Does anyone know which registration was painted in full Libyan colours.

2,Does anyone have a better picture of this aircraft in full Libyan cls

Was it an artist's impression?
Have never seen a Libyan 747 pic- have seen an Air Algerie 747-200 picture (deferred Braniff order)- but this too was never delivered.

Page 47 of the above mentioned book shows the Boeing flight line, and in the background is a 747-200 in full Libyan colours.

I know that picture, too. Its no fake. There was actually a 747 painted in the the full golden Libyan livery. But I don´t think it ever carried a Libyan livery. I also don´t know which one of the later Varig 742s it was (the first one I suppose).

According to the AeroTransport Data Bank (http://aerotransport.free.fr/), the three 747-2L5B Combi aircraft had registrations 5A-DIJ, 5A-DIK, & 5A-DIL reserved, but I do not know if they were ever applied. After their delivery was blocked by embargo, they became PP-VNA, PP-VNB, & PP-VNC respectively with Varig. I also recal seeing pictures of at least one painted in the full Libyan Arab Airlines livery.
