Hello all, i have a shot from a book of a Continental Airlines 757 in Gatwick or Heathrow not sure which one i am pretty sure its Heathrow, isnt that odd? does anyone know anything about this ? Why was it there? it was sitting on what appeared to be a hardstand next to a BA 734 I belive it was. So whats up with that? Are these scheduled services? I know a 757 is capable on that kind of trip. Does this happen currently? Thanks for the info.

they fly daily from Gatwick to Cleveland,Ohio which is just about as far as they can go.I suspect every now and then they have to stop en-route to refuel.CO also use them to AMS from EWR I think and might also use them to BHX thought I'm not 100%.They flew them to Stansted before Sep11 but the route was stopped although it is rumoured they will start again.
p.s. CO don't and can't fly to LHR!

People always seem surprised about 757s flying transatlantic routes. There is nothing new about this. I remember as a kid flying MAN-MCO via BGR on a Monarch 752 then the same route the following year on an Air 2000 752.
Both times we stopped for fuel on the way out, and both times we made it back non-stop with the strong tailwinds (we were supposed to stop both ways @ BGR).
These days I am not aware of any charter airlines doing this, as B763s and A332s have dominated transatlantic charter flying. But I know Monarch were still doing this in 2000 on the GLA-SFB route (752).
I used to love the smell of Jet-A in the morning...
