Today I discovered I live a couple of blocks away from a retail store called "Flight 001" in NYC. It's a fantastic store and a must for airline enthusiasts. They sell unique travel supplies, as well as a collection of books and items relating to airlines and air travel. I picked up Ezra Stoller's black and white photography book of Saarinen's TWA terminal (fabulous), as well as a laminated folded reference brochure entitled "Plane Spotter: Your Guide To Passenger Airliners." It illustrates all the major commercial jet aircraft flying and shows you how to identify them and tell them apart.

Anyone who is in NYC or visits NYC should definitely stop by. It's on Greenwich Avenue at 12th Street. They also have one in SF.

As it happens, Sunday's S.F. Chronicle Magazine features the S.F. outlet of the store; http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/a/2002/07/21/CM64894.DTL

BTW, "Flight 001" refers to Pan Am's legendary round-the-world flight 001, and there are many Pan Am items in the store (books, bags, etc.).

STT757: You could walk there from either the 9th Street or 14th Street Path stations. It's a short block west of 7th Avenue.

They also have a web site that provides all sorts of information about the 2 stores: www.flight001.com

I've been there many times, it's near my work (Hudson & Houston). My only issue with the store is, they refuse to sell me the Alitalia bag they have on display! But, I digress.

Hello to all the NY'ers in the forums.
