I need advice on where to spot at Munoz Marin It'l airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I'm going there on short notice so any help will be appreciated. Also, have any of you that have spotted there gotten into trouble with the cops for spotting? Always important to know.

Thanks again,
Mike

Hehe what a coincidence- I was spotting today at SJU for like an hour waiting for my dad's flight to get in.
If you are planning to go spotting on Sat or Sun you have the Aeroparque which is a small restaurant with a balcony on the second floor exclusively for spotting. You will have alot of small children runing around and some of them might even start asking you questions but you can just ignore them or tell them you dont speak spanish.
If you are going to go spotting Monday through Friday you have the Airport garage . The 5th floor is the best because you have a view of the whole airport but sometimes the cops can get a bit bitchy and tell you to go down to the 4th floor. But the 4th floor is still prety good, today I was between the 4th and 5th floor.
No I've never gotten in trouble for spotting eventhough I dont go spotting that often.

The top of the El San Juan Hotel has an open air restaurant with a good view of the taxiway and runway, you're practically looking at the top of the planes as they're landing. It was great eating there one afternoon and seeing an Iberia 743 landing below me! I don't know if they would let you take pics there.

Just wondering cause the Embassy is the hotel with the best view along with the Ritz that also has good views of the runway and Terminal D.

That's a load of crap. I remember spending my lunch hours at SJU when I worked in Santurce a few years ago. It's too bad it's only open on weekends.

Are there good photography opportunites at the Wyndham/Embassy???

I wouldn't be surprised if the port authority had something to do with it. When the Aeroparque is open people are parking there for free and these are cars that are being taken away from the parking garage. But today for example when the Aeroparque is closed the garage was almost completely occupied something rarely seen on the weekends. This is just me speculating, but with such a corrupt port authority nothing would really surprise me.
Hey at least Terminal B is being remodelled (it was about time)

Chepos, every been down by Caguas or Las Piedras in Puerto Rico? That's where most of my family lives. I've been there so many times, at least 10. It's one hell of a beautiful island!

Jeez Chepos, Caguas has a little more going for it than Ruby Tuesdays! LOL!

Your Port Authority theory makes sense, but isn't Aeroparque privately run? Last time I was there it was operated by Empresas Santana. Although it's airport property so I guess they'd have the final word.

is there anything new and exciting there???

Definitely - I was just sort of making a point on how Americanized this town has gotten (it is loosing the cultural heritage of Puerto Rico).
Caguas was one of the most important cities for the Taino Indians which is originally called Caguax but the Spaniards decided to modify the name.
Lets just say that Empresas Santanas gives the Port Authority a little something and The Port Authority gines empresas Santanas all of the food concessions at the Airport.
The Macdonalds. Taco Maker, Subway - Empresas Santanas bought the franchise rights for the airport
Cafe Caribe, Manhattan Grill - Owned by Empresas Santanas
Catering for most of the airlines - done by Empresas Santanas

Is ACS still doing catering for airlines at SJU? I remember when my former employer switched to Empresas Santana. Horrible food and service. SJU needs a real top notch caterer like LSG. There was also another catering company called Abela Catering, they were pretty good at first. I can tell you some horror stories about Santana and his corrupt few.

Have been to Aeroparque a couple of times. Good spot for aircraft lovers.

I think Empresas Santana bought out it's competitors.
There have been some horror stories about Empresas Santanas- rats and stuff like that roaming around the kitchen . But according to local TV reports all of that has changed and Empresas Santanas has improved their services.
Empresas Santanas- Calidad es nuestro Compromiso. LOL
