I know this won´t help you that much, but both -200s look stubby and, in short, well, short. When you see one, and when you can appreciate the length, you´ll know immediately whether it´s a -200 or -300.
Sorry, no real visual differences, they have the same exit layout, so if you don´t want to count windows, you´ll have to rely on your gut feeling.
Plus of course some airlines only have -200, others only -300.

The larger tail applies only to the A330-200, not the A340-200, which is externally identical to the -300 except for few fuselage frames. (ATA, your post was clear, I just wanted to emphasize this). I suppose there were some more stringent lateral control issues in case of engine out on a twin vs. a quad.
