Yesterday evening I was reading the Delta world timetable and I realized that DL doesn't operate any flight to cities like Singapore or Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Bombay, Beijing, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. Japan has only a few flights!!!

Do you know why DL made this choice?

DL significantly reduced its Asian presence a few years ago and scaled back its mini-hub at PDX. Asian service wasn't as profitable as hoped and DL wanted to concentrate its efforts elsewhere.

The Bombay flight is opperated via CDG and is only seasonal. Delta sold most of their landing slots at NRT earlier this year, so the pretty much gave up on the east via NRT or the US. Their only way to inroad would be through CDG and with Air France's help.

Actually, Delta flies to Mumbai year round. It has never been a seasonal flight. It is extremely profitable for the airline. They moved it to CDG to complement AF's service and to gain some feed from the CDG hub.
