Does Anyone Know Who Got The LHR Slot?

I know that Delta was trying very hard to get a slot in London's Heathrow airport, but they were not given it because of some reasons.

Does anyone know what these reasons are? And I heard Continental got the slot but not sure, does anyone know?

Thanks,
Deltadude8

Currently the only American airlines that can fly to LHR are UA and AA.Both have about 14 daily rotations.CO ,DL and the rest won't be allowed in to LHR until the US-UK bi-lateral agreement is changed.

DL cannot get into LHR, as stated above, under Bermuda 2, the bilateral air agreement between the US and the UK.....under this old agreement, only TWA and Pan Am could fly into LHR, the TWA rights are now with AA and the Pan Am rights are with UA. Those rights were purchased by UA and AA, respectively, under seperate deals back in the 1980s......Pan Am and TWA were desperate for cash at the time and sold the family jewels, so to speak, the authority to fly from key US cities to LHR.

All other US carriers are at LGW, and cities not covered under Bermuda 2, such as DFW, ATL, etc, do not have flights into LHR.....thus both DL and BA fly ATL-London into Gatwick.

The US and UK have been working on modifying, updating and replacing the Bermuda 2 agreement for years with a view to open skies between the 2 nations......so far, nothing can be worked out.

Thus, DL will be sitting in LGW for a few more years.

I know many DL employees and we were chatting about this the other day. Delta was on the way to getting a slot into LHR, but for I guess for the reason stated above that they couldn't. But, we all were told that CO got the slot. Delta is trying very hard to get the next one, and I have heard that they will do a lot for it. I am sure you are correct, but maybe the US and UK are closer to an agreement than we know or think.

I hope so. Because it would be nice to fly into LHR instead of LGW. A lot closer to the city.
Good Flying,
Michael

If that is true that CO has got the slot, then lets hope BMi get a slot to fly to the US.

Could this be an indiaction that B2 is coming to an end ??

One reason why the B2 agreement is taking so long to sort out is the UK government want to open up LHR but will not agree to it unless the US give something back in return, like the rights for UK carriers to pick up pax and transport them between US destinations.

DL will be starting 3x daily ATL-LHR flights from October 15. Also 1x CVG-LHR, 1x MCO-LHR and 1x FLL-LHR. All these flights will be operated by 777 except FLL which will be a 767-300ER.

CO already flies to LHR from EWR, IAH and CLE using a mixture of equipment. The new slot you are referring to will be used to commence service from GUM using a 767-400ER.

Dutchjet and donder10, I agree with Michael. How do you know if this agreement is true or not? Do you know as many Delta employees as he does? If no, then be quiet.

CO doesn't fly to LHR, only a codeshare with VS.

Both DL and CO desperately want to be able to get into LHR, but as stated above (and many, many times in other threads), they can't under the current agreement. B747-437B, I'm not sure where you got your info, but neither carrier does or can fly their own metal into LHR. And since so many people have a stake in the B2 agreement and/or its modification, I have a hard time believing a new agreement has been reached without anyone hearing about it.

Actually Sean the CVG flight will be an MD-11. They need that 777 for a new service Delta's going to start up. You can read about it here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum21/HTML/006703.html

Gatwickgunner, I heard Delta is trying to secure rights to fly JFK-LGW, so I'm sure Delta will remain committed to the Gatwick market.

So will Virgin Atlantic put the new Airbus 346 on the GUM-LHR route for Continental?

-437B: Is the US Airways plan going according to schedule? I know that they were planning to start flights in Nov. from PHL, CLT, PIT, and DCA with the A330. Have any problems come up?

BTW: You should come here to Philly. It's been snowing an inch and hour here. Got to go, I have to go downtown to celebrate the Phils world series win down on South Street.

If Delta could get into LHR(with a decent sized operation) it would be bye-bye Gatwick very quickly.CO have mentioned flying 6 daily EWR-LHR flights although that may be a bit OTT
