As you know KU added Varna to their network in June, flights are operated I think weekly using the A300-600 via Beirut, its their first East European destination and its good to see non-Euro airlines getting into the market (Egypt Air fly to some places in east Europe and Qatar Airways are planning to add Bosnia to their network next year) but why are KU flying this route? whom are they catering to? wouldnt Balkan 737s to Kuwait make more sense even if theres a sizeable Bulgarian expat community there?

Rather interesting isnt it....i am wondering too what would be the target market for this route. It is being operated once weekly...does anyone know if the route is seasonal because KU does operate some European routes only during the summer. But if that was the case why would they wait all the way till August when schools in Kuwait are about to open.....im not sure if there is a Bulgarian expat community in Kuwait...there probably is and maybe some Bulgarians are coming to Kuwait for some kind of work or trade. I will try to remember to ask someone in Kuwait if there Bulgarians there.

I would agree on what Hisham said. If I'm not mistaken they fly to Malaga too (seasonal) and I could imagine that this could be a similar reason, just to go to vacation over there. Another possibility could be that there are a few Kuwaiti Company based at Varna producing what ever. Indeed I don't think that there is a big traffic from Varna to Kuwait and onward...

Perhaps they also have the other gulf-states citizens in mind. KU is the only one among SV,GF,QR,EK flying there, so there might be bigger market than one initially thinks. But I would have to say that a Bulkan 737 with a route containing 2 gulf cities (eg. KUI, DXB) might have made more scence.
