Quick questions for anyone who may know:

I'm flying to London from LAS on US AIR in september. I'm flying with a friend on Travel Agent tickets, Coach + 1 upgrade, and they're "space available" tickets. Anyone have experience how hard it will be to get on the flight from LAS to PHL and then from PHL on? Also, how likely is it that we'll get the upgrade from coach to Envoy class? Are there better days in the week to fly where there will likely be more space available? I would really like to get on the A330 flight from PHL to LGW, instead of the 767. I think the seats are wider in Envoy Class on the A330 too! Any help you can give me would be totally helpful. We plan on leaving Sept 14, and comming back a week later.

Much depends on your frequent flyer status. If you are a gold prefered or above, you will probably get the upgrade. If you are not, your chances are less. USairways 767 and 330 are good to fly, In general, I like the 767 better, but in the case of USairways, the 330s have a better entertainment system.

Thanks for your reply! I actually have no ff status with USAIR. They're travel agent's certificates that were given to my friend who works for STI. The came from the marketing dept of USAIR. As far as I know, we're probably behind all FF upgrades that they would do, but I'm not 100% for sure. Are saturday flights better than other days? I know flying domestically, they seem to be less full on saturdays.

Are these ER1149 certs you're using? If so be sure that they are issued in "J" class when you trade them for tickets. And yes, these type of certs will go to the bottom of the list in priority. They are categorized as "S8" which falls behind all revenue passengers (naturally) and also behind employees (S4 and S5) and other airline employees and "buddy passes" (S7).

LAS is bad for non-revving any time, unfortunately. And US Airways' limited presence in/out of Vegas makes it difficult if you're trying for an onward connection. I know some people that leave the west coast on a red-eye the previous night in order to make European connections. For peace of mind you might want to keep an eye on fare sales and buy something confirmed (personnally I've only had one successful non-rev into Vegas...for the return I had to buy a ticket on WN to PHX where I caught the US flight to PHL. Other times I've non-revved to LAX and bought tickets on HP).

LGW on the A330 is a nice experience, even in economy. Not sure what the loads look like however Saturdays are typically heavy with business travelers that want to have Sunday in Europe to recuperate before going to work.

Everything considered, though, mid-September is probably not going to be as busy this year since many people aren't flying. And, ultimately, anything can happen when non-revving! So watch the loads - you can call US Airways reservations for the number of open seats. Just make sure you "meal list" for the flight and identify yourself as a non-rev on an ER1149 to the agent.

U dont HAVE to connect in PHL. U can fly from LAS to PIT or CLT where they also have A-330 service to LGW.

I can't speak for the LAS-PHL segment, but the PHL-LGW is great on USAirways. I've flown Envoy as a non-rev a few times and coach another. It really wasn't too hard to upgrade. I think that the only time that I wasn't able to was because a few seats were MEL'd. On the 14th you have two flights from PHL but one is a 333 and one is a 767. You can also connect through PIT and have 333 service. Personally I prefer PIT but you get more chances through PHL. Good luck and enjoy.

I don't think they are ER1149, I think they are ER1183 but I could be wrong. My friend is supposed to call me today with the number that is checked on the certificate and I'll post it when she calls. Does that change our priority level at all? We actually live in SLC, and we choose vegas because it's closest. We're probably going to buy the unrestricted tickets on WN and fly to vegas, but maybe it's better to do the whole schabang through LAX or PHX and forget LAS all toghether?
