Anyone know what a typical 2-class configuration for a 747-200 and a 747-400 would be? Boeing has the total number of seats on their webpage, but not the actual layouts. Thanks.

Well I don't agree with Twa747100 as there is no 747 that I know that has a 3-5-3 configuration. The common configuration in the Economy Class is 3-4-3 and in Business Class it is 2-2 or 2-3-2 depending on where the Business Class is located in the aircraft. There are many different configurations as every airline has different needs. Some airlines even have the Upper Deck filled with Economy Seats i.e. Air Canada, some of the older 747s of BA, Ansett....

I once travelled on a BA 747 LHR-SFO-LHR and was sitting in the Upper Deck Economy Class. The flights were just wonderful, as you almost here anything of the engines, the service was great (1 FA for 27 seats) and you had agreat view. Otherwise I prefer the last three rows, as there are only 8 seats per row instead of 10 (2-4-2) and there is more space for your handluggage. E.g. on two marvelous flights with Air Madagascars B747-2B2B(SCD) c/n 21614 from Munich via Nairobi to Antananarivo and back. Superb service and lots of legroom.

The two class configuration would be one of the following variants..

F class or J class upstairs with all lower deck being allocated to Y class

F or J class being forward of L1-R1 and Y class from L1-R1 to the rear...

Typically, the seat pitch these days averages at 32-33 inches on a 747 and on some carriers 34 inches. The seats are arranged 3-4-3 on most carriers in Y except some inner Japanese flights have 3-5-3 in Y. Upper deck on 747 in Y class is 3-3 in F/J is 2-2 lower deck forward of L1-R1 is unusual due to the angles variation I have seen are as follows

19 seats

17 seats

T-Table I am sure there are other options as well... But these are what I have seen for F/J in the foward area...

In Y class I have seen the following

36 seats

All are assuming 747-100/200 series (300/400 similar but slight differences... due to expanded area with stairs located further aft...)

The total number of seats of 747's that I have seen varies from 284 on a three class FJY with lots of F and J not much Y to 616 on a 747-SR in Japan 2 class lots of Y 11 across...

Hope this helps

As far as I know the airline with the most seats on a 747 is a Corsair 747-312 with 555 Y-seats and 25 C-seats. I never heard of a domestic 747 in Japan with more than 542Y 27C seats.
