Someone posted a short time ago that UPS's 747-200's were getting ready to be returned to the lessor. Well that was some mis-information. UPS currently has 5 200 series on lease and are not being returned anytime soon. Since getting the China routes Asian volume has been far better than expected and currently UPS is looking at Long Range additions to the fleet since some of the 747-100's are having to be retired and getting old. The MD-11 fleet will be serving Asia but only 3 of them are in fleet right now.

UPS owns all their aircraft as far as I know. The "leases" are from SBG Overseas Leasing which is a wholly owned subsidiary of UPS.

I have been wrong before though.

Quit calling an airport ramp "Tarmac" and a taxiway "runway".

B747-200 N524UP was returned to Trinton a few months ago. N527UP will be returned to Polar Air Cargo in Feb 2003 when its lease is due.

525 is scheduled to be returned in Nov. 03. Straight from UPS 747 flight management.

Now that's crazy. During peak season returning a lease?

Oh yes, The 747s are, mostly, leased from Triton. I wasn't aware that they leased any from Polar though.

Crazy to return one in November? No, they will have enough MD-11s on line next year to handle the load.

The major part of the 747 fleets of UPS (thats all their 747-100Fs, not the 200Fs) and Evergreen are so old that they are due for replacement soon. Most have passed their 30th birthday, so I won´t call them "Queen of the Skies" any more, "Queen Mum" is better suited. I´ll have a Gin Tonic on these brave workhorses!
