what is the best airport to spot at from inside the airport terminals? It would most likely have to be east of the Mississippi...I am concidering JFK, ORD, PHL, and BOS...any other suggestions. I am trying to plan my next day trip for spotting and really need to know!!

MSP has a observation deck in the green concourse. That is a good place. You can all of the airport from it.

The only problem with the MSP observation deck is that you cant see any of the Gold concourse, other than that it is one of my first stops when i go spotting there

I liked to go to Denver. the Dulles Observation deck is mighty fine, but sometimes it's cool when a heavy i.e Spanair's 767-300 taxi's by you, what a sight. But from the Ob's deck, the runway is really far, it's about a mile apart from RWY 19L/1R to 19R/1L, so you're in between.
But binoculars will do fine.
The interior of terminal C/D is okay but facing the south is hard it see cause the windows are mighty small. But facing the terminal B is nice. Terminal B has a nice view from the window.
I hope this helps.

Even though the variety is limited, I would have to say that Orange County (John Wayne SNA) and Ontario (ONT) CA are excellent. Only problem with ONT is that it faces south. Therefore, it is not possible to get full sun side shots from there. SNA faces north west, so it's great in the mornings-especially in the summer months, because the sun rises in the north east, so the planes are lit up perfectly, and there is no glare.
Las Vegas' terminals C and D both offer some great spots.
New York LaGuardia is great from both the central terminal as well as the USAirways terminal. Unfortunately, to access the gate areas of the central term at LGA, you need a ticket.
The top of the parking lot at SJC terminal A (or is it C? wherever American and Southwest are) is great in the AM hours. And it is only a 10 minute walk from the gates.

As for in-terminal photo spots, one of the great places I watched from was the end of the middle concourse at O'Hare. Aircraft taxi right in front of you. There also used to be a fenced-in observation deck on the top of AA's terminal. The end of Terminal 1 at LAX (SW, US, etc) would also be good I would think.

P.S. The end of our recently renovated concourse C (TW, AA, UA) at MSY isn't bad!!!

National Airport is made up of all glass, and there is plenty of places to sit and just chill right in front of the runway (it is also where you can see the missed approaches to rnwy 18. I've seen so many that I have lost count).

how close are you to the runways at DCA? I have a 140 zoom can you get planes taking off and touching down with that? I am not sure I wanted to go to National because of the variety there. I may just go there anywaya and take a taxi to that park that loops around the runway????
