AA Converting All 763's To Coach/Business Only

I think it's a smart move. Most of the 763 routes don't support a first class cabin. Most pax who end up in first class are upgrades or FF redemptions. AA's 763's currently have 24 biz/9 first seats, and will now have 30 biz seats only, representing a decrease in premium seats by 3. Coach seats will probably increase by 7-14. RASM will probably stay flat while CASM will probably decrease slightly.

Does this mean the Hawaii 763's will be switched from first/coach to biz/coach?

Aren't the domestic first class seats and business class seats identical?

I think the seat pitch might be different.

Smart move, because it will allow them to be more profitable in Europe. The 777s can still be sent to the premium markets...Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Santiago de Chile, London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Madrid (hopefully MAD will go to a 777 finally)...while the secondary markets can get the 763s. This not only allows for better aircraft utilization, but also allows for more oppurtunities for expansion in Europe and deep South America to markets that would otherwise not be able to support the current 763 configuration. For example, Asuncion (which AA does serve, but via GRU), Barcelona, and Birmingham (it is said that one of the major reasons AA is pulling out of Birmingham this October is because of they way thier 763s are configured). Unfortunatley, it means no more business-class seats for coach prices on select 767-operated flights, and that AA's first class service, which no other American carrier can match, will only be available domesticly on four flights (AA69, MIA-DFW; AA906, MIA-LAX; AA999, LAX-MIA; AA943, DFW-MIA).

AA still will operate 3-class domestically on the 767-200's, mostly on Trans-Con's. Only the 763's are going to 2-class. And this also means a better product on the Hawaii 763's. The First class on those, which is actually more like Business will get better legroom than on those 8 763's currently doing Hawaii runs, all for fleet simplifaction.

Thanks for the clarification PSU. I really like what AA is doing and I think that they are making some good moves. And keeping the 762s with 3-class config is also a good move, because thier premier trans-cons from Miami, JFK, Boston, and Dulles to Los Angeles and San Francsico have high demand for premium services.

What happens if you already have tickets to Hawaii in first class on a 763? Will you get a refund?

The First Class seats on Hawaii configured AA 767's are actually business class seats. Basically the entire 767 fleet will have the same configuration as the Hawaii AA 767.

A 2 class cabin is the wave of the future - Many European carriers have already done this years ago.

For the Hawaii configuration, it is 2-2-2, like domestic business. The chairs are not first class = they are business! They just put the First Class name on it. As for their decision to make all 763s B/Y, I guess it shows DL and CO could forsee the market as they only have two classes...I'm not sure about making their European 763s in a two-class, because some 763 routes, can support 3 class service, like Zurich...

Aq737,

I believe we use 777s on our ZRH flights, and no longer the 763s.

KKMolokai, both DFW-ZRH and JFK-ZRH are 767-300ERs.
