The planes are inefficient, costly to repair and no longer meet the needs of the traveling public, Campbell said. You'd be in the minority of passengers who have tried out then. I don't care for a stupid PTV.... I think it's pretty sad many Americans can't even go a three hour flight without watching their game shows and crap.
I think I'll take AA over jetBlue and get double miles on AA flights that compete with B6.

I fit just fine in regular coach seats. However, being able to comfortable cross my legs is a plus. I can't recall the last time I actually used the inflight entertainment when offered. Going overseas I have not used it except for maybe an hour with the moving map display up on my last AA B777 flight. I'd rather do something else than watch edited-for-airlines movies and rerun TV shows with commercials.
Re: Game shows: I believe that's all several of the jetBlue channels show. Yes, I'm a fan of Match Game (gotta love Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly) but I can do without it while sitting on an airplane.
My definition of entertaining oneself is broader than just plopping myself down in front of the boob tube for some mindless shows like most Americans. I think it's pretty sad that many people seem to think TV is the only thing that can entertain them.

I second what Seiple says. For those of us who travel regularly on business those couple of inches of legroom are quite valuable. If you have work to do on a plane, especially on a laptop, an extra 2-3 inches can make a big difference!

Seiple, while you have a point that reliance on television for entertainment can be a negative thing, I don't see why it needs to be "Americans" that get picked on. I think it's a worldwide phenomenon. And besides, even if I use a PTV for only a quarter or a half of a flight, I still love that I have the option to use it whenever I want. And having the moving map right there is great.
566 posts in 33 days though.....damn. How do you do that? Reliance on computers is just as bad as TV, you know.

I personally really didn't notice a difference on MRTC.
My roommate on the other hand had his first flight on AA since MRTC was installed and he says he would be willing to pay a little extra to fly on AA now for the few inches.Of course, he played basketball in high school and has bad knees from it where as I am only 5'8"

I flew AA from SNA to EZE last month, with more than just a few connections. I flew on two 738s, a 757, a 763, a 777 ( ), and two MD-80s (both ex-TWA). I wasn't expecting much of a difference, but compared to my last experience flying (4-2001 on a DL 757; cramped the whole time), I was pleasantly surprised. I could cross my legs, and my knees didn't hit the front of the seat in front of me...and I am 5'10". You really don't think that those extra inches would make a difference, but they do.
NOW - for the logistics part -
I seriously doubt AA will pull the plug on MRTC.
It is such a big thing for them. It is THE advertising campaign...this is AA's trump card...they are "the only airline to remove seats for more room throughout coach."
To prove a point:
* It's on every drink napkin
* The F/As remind you on every single flight in the boarding announcements about it
* Passengers like it - I would seriously consider flying AA over another airline and pay a tad more for some space...
I agree with what was stated above - I think "economizing" the fleet means axing Biz/First Class on some flights.
P.S. Anybody been to ORD and seen the cabin mockup with AAs seats compared to other airlines' seats? It's pretty cool...
