In October 2001, I started a very popular thread about what I think major airlines should do with their fleets. This is an updated version. This time, however I'm welcoming other airlines. If you have an airline that you would like me to modernize, just give me their fleet.

Right now there's no replacement for the Concorde, and there won't be for a long time. The Sonic Cruiser is the only suitable replacement if it ever comes out.

Concorde to Sonic Cruiser....  Big thumbs up and probably will happen the same thing that Concorde suffer... they plan to build up more than 50 and correct me if I´m wrong but they only reach around 20 acfts. Same thing will happen to S.Cruiser. 20 to 25 acft built, (these are only my own predictions)

Interesting concept. IMO, American should have the following fleet...
36 - A300-605R (up from 34 now)
185 - 737-823 (only 99 ordered)
155 - 757-223 (including the 27 TWA 757s)
70 - 767-323 (currently 49 + 9 on order)
50 - 777-223 (47 ordered)
365 - MD-80 (currently 362, including the 103 from TWA)
Total of 721 aircrafts comprising of 6 basic types.
Anything with 100 seats or less should be handled by the RJs with American Eagle.
I like to see your suggestions on America West & Frontier Airlines. Mine is...
America West having 75 A320s, 50 A319s & 25 A318s.
Frontier having 25 A319s & 20 A318s.
Just my thoughts on the topic. Regards.

It's fun to think about what we were flying on last year, and then to think about what would replace it in the future. For example, I was on a couple of AA 727s just about a year ago... they're gone now.

However, I do have one small thing to point out- you haven't taken into account the announcements already made by the airlines. For example:

AA: ex TWA 767 with PW engines are GROUNDED by november.
NW: the DC-10-40s are being replaced by 757-351s.

Also, I think the MD-80 series are closer in capacity to the 737-700, rather than the 737-800 as you have suggested.

Also, I think American will chose a variant of the 737 (-600?) to replace the Fokkers when the money comes. Most of that flying, however, will go to the Eagle operation and larger regional jets. AA announced that the Fokkers will all be retired 2003-2005.

Interesting/nostalgic stuff to think about.

Randall
