Last weekend i flew into boston to see my aunt and uncle cousins etc., I stayed at Logan awhile afterward and wasnt really all that thrilled with it, kinda dumpy actually. But moving on I got to talk to a a Lufthansa co-pilot about the possibility of LH starting any new service to the U.S. and he said that the only thing that he has heard was possibly MSP. I asked him about St. Louis and he said "possibly down the road if AA doesnt start it". I also got to talk to an AF pilot and he said that he heard SEA was in the lead for their next destination and that he didn't think DFW was coming back. He mentioned something about DTW too, I didnt hear him say anything about DEN. I really really wanted to talk to a SWISS or BA pilot but neither had any time to talk. I have taken two trips to DEN and BOS and have talked to several captains, first officers, flight attendants, airline reps. I am surprised that they will take time to talk to a normal person about aviation. Any thoughts on these coments?
Thx,

Lufthansa can't fly to MSP as Northwest has a monopoly there.......

Believe it or not, Lufthansa is currently looking into serving PDX. They're trying to decide between SEA and PDX. PDX officials are trying hard to attract them, and so far Lufthansa seems to be leaning towards PDX. Possibly since their is no other European carrier there while SEA has British Airways and SAS, so they would face some competition.

SEA, DEN, and DTW are what have leaked out of Air France as the next destinations in the US. No further details are known though. They're focusing on expanding their African network at the moment as a result of the demise of Sabena which had a strong African network. Then after they finish up with Africa, we may start hearing something about additional cities in the US.

A few weeks ago, I read in the Denver Post that Air France will return to DFW next summer.

Hmm...interesting about PDX. MSP was the first thing off the tip of his tounge so regarding MSP I don't know. I mentioned DFW and he kinda shrugged it off for some reason. Thx BA.

PDX I have to say was a surprise.

Here is the article about Lufthansa:

http://www.bizjournals.com/portland/stories/2002/08/12/story2.html

I truly wonder how BA would react to this. Especially since BA wants to be the Top European carrier in the US (they currently are) and not let any other carrier serving a destination in the US without them being in the market already.

CVG and MEM for example are exceptions. CVG has Air France, however the only reason they fly there is because CVG is a Delta hub. MEM has KLM, and of course the only reason they fly there is because it's a Northwest hub.

However, Lufthansa to PDX would not rely on any sort of alliance. So that's different.....
