I am about to fly on a Delta 767 (domestic), so this pertains to this specific airline and plane type.

Do they allow you to use a laptop computer during flight? Which parts of the flight is it not allowed? do Delta's 767-300, 767-200, and MD11 have power outlets in COACH section?

I know this is kinda off topic and I hope the mod's won't delete it, but if you do not use a power plug, how long can you expect battery life to last on a compaq laptop (newer model Li-Ion battery) assuming no CD burning, no downloading..mainly use for flight tracking.

Use of a laptop is permitted - along with other electonic devices - over 10 000 feet - or from the seatbelt light goes off after takeoff until it comes on before landing.
No DL domestic aircraft has power outlets - first or coach. Not too sure about Business Class on the international fleet, but there is nothing in coach.

Battery life?? 2-3 hours ..?? Maybe ... It's a Compaq ....

Be mindful of the person in front of you putting their seat back while your laptop is on the traytable . . .

It's very inconvenient to use a laptop in coach because of the limited seat pitch. Try an exit row or bulkhead row (ie, bulkhead in front of you) and put the laptop in your lap. If you put the laptop on the little table that pops out of the armrest, you won't be able to type -- the keyboard will be too close to your belly.

In first, on the 764s, they have power outlets I believe. BizElite has power outlets as well. At one time I thought I heard something on this site about power outlets in coach on some plane.. but know if it is true or not.

Also keep in mind that the power outlets require you to purchase a power adapter compatible with the plug.

Something like this:
