According to Flight International August 20-26, 2002, Emirates is looking for a medium-size widebody freighters for regional route.

The carrier has asked Boeing to look at developing B777F as a potential candidate. This will be a supplement to the A380F, for long-haul freighter operation, which starts in 2008.

Besides the 777F request, the carrier is also looking for A300-600F, B767-300F, and MD11F.

Emirates Sky Cargo says B767-300F is unlikely as "it doesn't really work for us as we don't operate the type already {as passenger aircraft}."

Th airline is evaluating the proposed A330-200F from Airbus, while pushing Boeing for 777-200F.

Boeing's response for 777-200F is that the engine is likely GE90-110B, that powers on 772LR. However, the 777F is in an early stage of research.

Why doesn't Emirates Sky Cargo say the MD-11 won't fit, because to my knowlege, they don't have MD-11s! Now why do they have 744Fs when they don;'t have 744s in their fleet? Interesting! I think more interest will need to be required before Boeing starts designing...

I would suspect they will end up contracting the aircraft in on an ACMI basis, so it won't really matter what type is used...

The 744F in Emirates livery is operated for them by Atlas which is a large 747 cargo operator.
It's not in their regular fleet (in fact, it carries an Atlas US registration).

I wish I were flying

They've already got the A330 in thier fleet. Why wouldn't the A330-200F be an automatic for them? I can only guess because it's still in development stage. And I can only guess that they are pushing for the 777F because of additional capacity. I wonder if they are pushing for the 772F or 773F? I would guess the 772F since the 773F would be close to capacity to the 744F.

A lot of guessing on my part here!  Laugh out loud
